Oakland singer/songwriter Kehlani started 2016 on a high note with a Grammy nomination for her You Should Be Here mixtape, but life took a darker turn when she was publicly bullied over her relationships with NBA baller Kyrie Irving and OVO’s PARTYNEXTDOOR.

After an attempted suicide and hospitalization, Kehlani has returned and is back on the road to promote her new single “24/7” and an upcoming major label debut LP.

During an April performance in Oakland, California, concertgoers shouted taunts regarding rumors she cheated on her former boyfriend Kyrie, but Kehlani took the high road and turned it into a teachable moment. She took a break from singing to address the state of her mental health and offer a few sincere words to the audience:

“Suicide is something that so many young people are dealing with. And so many young people slip under the rug. Please don’t try it. Don’t do it…..It wasn’t a first time thing, and that’s not OK…for anyone. Not for the people around you, not for the people that love you, not the people that care about you,” she said. “From me to you, you are worth it, you are perfect. You need to be here every single day. You are meant to be here. Get up every day and tell yourself that. I love you all very much.”

If there’s ever a moment you feel suicidal and need someone to talk to, don’t be afraid or ashamed to call the hotline for National Suicide Prevention at (1) 800-273-8255.
