Desus and Kid Mero, also known as The Bodega Boys, held a special live event in New York City sponsored by Hpnotiq.

I sat down with the two kings of Black Twitter during the first ever live taping of their podcast and the guys opened up about their success and lives before the fame.

“It feels great to wake up in the morning and do something you love,” said Kid Mero. “I used to wake up in the morning and feel dread. I would wake up and be like, ‘Damn, I gotta go do this shit.’ All I would think about is the end of the day. Now, at night, I get home, I put my kids to bed, hang out with my wife, we do our thing. But after everybody is in bed and I’m just dolo in my living room smoking an L, I just be like, ‘I can’t wait until I get in tomorrow and talk about this, this and that.'”

The comedic duo is on VICELAND TV four nights a week, shooting the shit and talking about everything from bodega cats to politics. They are on a path to perfection, always wanting to be better.

Desus admitted he’s super critical of every episode because he thinks of different jokes and better jokes the second time around, but it’s all good either way: “Imagine you love doing something and you get paid to do it every day.”

The Bodega Boys no longer have to sneak out of their jobs to do the podcast. “A lot of time we were very angry,” said Desus. “We had spent the whole day at a shitty job getting yelled at by my boss, and little kids telling him to suck their dick, but we went in there never thinking it would lead to this…We couldn’t even reach that level of hate right now.”

You can hear the joy and excitement in their voices as they riff off whatever comes to mind. That banter is paying off.

From Complex they ended up at MTV2. Now at VICELAND, they are being introduced to a whole new world of people enjoying the brand.

Check out the show and catch up on their antics here. The glo up is real.
