Could “King Kunta” be the single hip-hop heads wanted from Kendrick Lamar?

According to HBO’s music supervisor, Scott Verner, it is.

Miss Info Reports:

Scott Verner, Music Supervisor for HBO series such as Entourage and How To Make It In America took to Twitter on Wednesday night to speak on an impromptu listening session of some new Kendrick records.

Originally visiting to catch up with good friend Pharrell Williams in studio, things quickly changed as Lamar, who was working on ideas with The Neptunes hitmaker, pulled out his laptop and played a few new songs including one called “King Kunta.” Produced by TDE’s own Sounwave, Vener describes the record as one that “Took me all the way back to 90s hip hop and back and gave me a tour of the cultural fabric of LA like never before.”

Scott also tweeted about “King Kunta” and his conversation with Pharrell Williams about K.Dot’s new song.

In early October, Kendrick released his album’s lead single “i,” which turned out to be a very unexpected and polarizing song choice for the Compton rapper. While some critics loved how unorthodox the single was, others cringed.

There’s no word on when this single may drop, and we still have no idea when Kendrick will release his sophomore album.
