New Orleans bred rapper turned manager turned businessman Bryan “Birdman” Williams graces the cover of Rolling out Magazine dishing on his past, ride to the top, bending stereotypes, and well tuned eye for underrated talent. Rising from the gritty streets of New Orleans, specifically the infamous and hip-hop glorified Magnolia Projects, Bryan “Birdman” Williams transformed the hustling spirit of the street into a thriving multi-million dollar business jump starting the careers of recognizable artists; Lil Wayne, Drake, and Juvenile. Arguably running the most powerful label in hip-hop today Byran “Birdman” Williams says this to Rolling out Magazine, “To be successful and to be a businessman, you’ve got to know all parts of your business. You may have other people doing the job, but you’re supposed to know your business. If you don’t know your business, you’re going to get swallowed in it. There comes a point where you’re going to have to make decisions. I have to know where every dollar goes. Other people might not treat your money like you would.”
In 1989, Bryan “Birdman” Williams alongside his brother Ronald created Cash Money Records, a street label known for releasing local artists and selling upward 100,000+ without the use of music videos and Billboard charting singles. The label received its first commercial hit with rapper Juvenile which captured the attention of music conglomerate Universal Records buying into the Cash Money brand with a 30 million dollar licensing deal for publishing and royalties. Over the next 12 years Cash Money released a slew of hits from artists like the Big Tymers, B.G, and The Hot Boys (Lil Wayne). In 2007, the label offered its most successful artist to date rapper Lil Wayne, a position as president of Cash Money/Young Money Entertainment giving Lil Wayne complete artistic control and A&R development.
