Rihanna's Got Next: Singers Tackle Their First Acting Roles

These days it seems like Rihanna can do no wrong. The Barbados-born pop singer already claimed her spot in the music world by putting out hit after hit, has become a veritable force in the fashion world, and is a paparazzi favorite. Now she’s got her eye on reaching triple threat status.

Rihanna is about to appear in her very first movie (Her cameo in Bring It On: All or Nothing doesn’t count. She played herself and was on screen for 10 minutes, if that). She’s set to star alongside True Blood’s Alexander Skarsgard in Battleship, an action film based on the beloved board game.

The film, which is set to release on May 25, 2012, is a big step for Rihanna, but it isn’t exactly a surprise. Singers have be seguewaying into the acting world since Doris Day starred in Romance on the High Seas back in 1948. The more fans love the artist, the quicker they make their way on the big screen.
