Lauryn Hill's Comeback... Too Little,Too Late?

Lauryn Hill is back – for real this time. After innumerable false leads, years of strange one-off performances and leaked songs, talks of her mental breakdown and relationship woes, and legal battles concerning authorship of her breakout album, it seems as if the Fugees lead-singer is finally on the comeback track. She’s currently headlining the Rock The Bells tour, and her leaked song “Repercussions” entered the Billboard Hot R&B Tracks Chart at number 94– becoming the first Lauryn Hill song in more than 10 years to accomplish that feat. The appetite is obviously there for a Lauryn comeback, and her contemporaries such as Maxwell and Bilal, and older-heads like Sade have laid the groundwork for a successful comeback after a prolonged absence from the R&B scene. The “grown up” R&B market is strong as ever, all she needs to do is record a “classic”-sounding album and she’s back in the fold. As fans of good music, we’re glad Lauryn Hill is back – The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill is one of the best albums of all time. However, I can’t help but wonder if Lauryn has missed her time to really make a mark.
