Motorola DROID R2-D2 Edition (PHOTOS & VIDEO)

Thursday, September 30th will see the release of the Star Wars inspired Motorola DROID R2-D2 Edition. The special edition will be on sale for $249 after rebate - $49 more than the standard edition.

The outer casing will be in the light grey robot color with R2-D2 color design etched into the backing.

The smartphone will also come with specialized content that includes special notification sounds and ringtones, four wallpapers, an R2-D2 clock widget, a 'Best of R2-D2' video and an exclusive binoculars app showing a 360-degree view of the battle of Hoth, an epic battle from Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back.

Verizon has created a website devoted to the R2-D2 phone and it gives the consumer a look at all of the special features mentioned above.

If this phone appeals to that inner-nerd, you need to get on it sooner rather than later; supplies are limited. 'It's a limited edition with some promotions in some stores, but there aren't that many to go around,' a spokeswoman said.
