A brand new media universe opened up today after it was revealed AOL has acquired The Huffington Post for a cool $350 million dollars.

The Huffington Post was founded five years ago, with an investment of $1 million,  by Greek-American Arianna Huffington, a former conservative political commentator who switched to liberalism in the late 1990s.

Forbes named Huffington, the ex-wife of former Republican Congressman Michael Huffington, #12 on their their first ever Most Important Woman in Media List in 2009.

Huffington will run all of AOL’s platforms as president and editor in chief of The Huffington Post, Engadget, TechCrunch, Moviefone, MapQuest, Black Voices, PopEater, AOL Music, AOL Latino, AutoBlog, Patch, and StyleList.
