The photographing of celebrities in todays culture is almost becoming an annoyance. The paparazzi rarely make an effort to take great photos for artistic sake and historical context leaving us with whatever they could take while stalking whatever celebrity is hot at the moment.
Photography should capture timeless moments that could not be recorded accurately in any other form. In “Photo by Sammy Davis Jr.”, The celebrity becomes the photographer for once and sammy davis takes the most intimate and timeless photos of some of the people he hung around - such as Frank Sinatra, Marilyn Monroe, Paul Newman, and James Dean- during his heyday as an entertainer. The pictures were taken at rare casual moments when sammy davis subjects were at their most comfortable making for a warm and interest set of photographs that gives a more revealing look into how these legends of the past really lived.
The book comes in a hard cover format and is on sale at Harper Collins books.
