Comedian/Actress Mo’Nique won her first Academy Award for her role in the highly acclaimed film, “Precious” Sunday (Mar 7).

She accepted this great award with great humility and grace.

“I would like to thank the Academy for showing that it can be about the performance and not the politics,” she said with emotion. “To my amazing husband, Sidney — thank you for showing me that sometimes you have to forego doing what’s popular, in order to do what’s right.” [ABC News]

Mo’Nique’s memorable portrayal of Mary, Precious’ mother who abused her physically, mentally, emotionally and sexually showed the depth of her talent.

Moneke's press confernece after the oscars really defined an angry black woman. I used to love her. but, her attitude really dissapointed me. She contradict herslef alot and i am beggining to sense a n insecure little girl vs. a strong black woman.

dnice u hate'n all day..ur judge'n..a little..she is loud but its who she is..she can work on her ways for sure..we live and learn every day..but thats her..lets not try to control how people act..every thing shes doing is legal..golden globe..oscar..us as fans knew who she was from the jump..

- @cahokia I won't say it wasn't a good performance, oscar worthy..is questionable to me. I just think her rudeness at the press conference was uncalled for and it made me cringe and embarrassed for her. I never liked her comedy, I think her show is a step it and fetch it show, and I just in general don't like the broad. We're all entitled to our opinion.

- @cahokia and how did I try to control how she acts? I stated an opinion. Go somewhere with that cliche "you hating" sh*t. I can state my opinion all day. Hating on Monique ok...b*tch gotta condone an open relationship because she already knows from the jump that her man isn't going to be faithful to her. If chics like Elin Woods and Halle Berry getting cheated on she knows she don't stand a chance. She can save that I'm cool with him cheating for somebody that doesn't know better.

I’ve never been a fan of Monique and really wanted to be happy for her during this time but the truth is, I didn’t think she had to stretch that far to get into character. She’s usually acting loud, ghetto, and beligerant on the regular. Her speech was melodramatic and I felt it lacked humility. It’s not like you’ve been working towards this oscar your whole life – blessing. And the way she acted on E at her press conference – Talking about I’m only helping the people who helped me and only let black press interview her. I thought her attitude and rudeness was uncalled for – I mean you’d think she’d been shunned at the Oscars 5 times over. Still not a fan.
