Historically, the West Coast has produced some of the most game changing music in hip-hop. N.W.A. comes to mind as being one of the first major acts that crossed over but the Left Coast has also given us one of the most underrated lyricists in hip-hop, Ras Kass. Hailing from Carson, California, just south of downtown Los Angeles, the waterproof MC made his recording debut in 1996 on Priority Records with Soul On Ice. He also contributed a memorable track, “Miami Life,” to The Substitute soundtrack in 1996 as well.
