Check out this dope joint from the beautiful Jannine V f. Uncle Murder.
So tell me, where are you from originally?
Jannine: Queens, NY. Born and raised.
Who influences your musical style? Who are some people that you admire?
Jannine: Everyone from Madonna to Stephanie Mills. Mariah Carey, Janet Jackson, Michael Jackson. A lot of people varying from R & B, Pop and Rock; just everyone.
Your list contains well known entertainment figures, is that what your overall goal is, to be on the level of an actual entertainer vs just being an artist?
Jannine: Oh yeah, definitely.
You are most known for your “Spend it” track featuring the Ying Yang twins, what can we expect from you in 2010?
Jannine: I came out with a song called “Spend it” featuring the Ying Yang twins in 2008. We got a lot of love from the record, had a crazy buzz from it. I kind of, when I went to record it, it was a last minute thing. The producer sent me the track via Myspace and I recorded it and it just sounded like a real commercial record, real pop-ish and I thought it would work as a record at that time. Now that it’s a few years later now, I feel the music industry has changed back into real music again, so I kind of did that record and it was leaked out. I did that record following basically the trend at that time and it’s not really my style of music but I did it to follow a trend at that time but its not really who I am as an artist and I kind of want people to know that. It worked for what it was but it doesn’t describe who I am as an artist. I’m more of a rock, pop, soul and I perform with a live band. I’m going into different style as an artist and hopefully people will accept me for my true style. I’m more ready to put out records that I wrote that talk about things that I’ve been through in my life verses the standard party record. I don’t want to just be known as the girl who did the record with the Ying Yang Twins. People know me only as that chick and don’t really know me so hopefully they will get to know me now. We are just working on branding my name right now because no one knew my name before.
I heard about a hot new remix with Uncle Murda you did called “Play Your Part”?
Jannine: Yeah, Uncle Murda is like family. He called me up and asked me to jump on the track. It’s really just something for the streets. It’s already getting love at radio.
Are there any particular producers or artists you’re looking forward to working with this year?
Jannine: I’m not really someone who wants to work with a producer or artist based off or his/her name. I want to work with great music makers, not just people who have their name established.
Sounds like you have a plan. Branding yourself is indeed a must. Well I thank you for your time, are there any final things you’d like the readers to know about you? How to get in touch with you?
Jannine: Hit me on twitter @JannineV or myspace.com/JannineVictoriamusic.
