I drove home at 4 AM today listening to the radio. Hot97 played Ron Browz – “20 Dollars”.  It is 4AM. Who the hell, on a Sunday, could possibly enjoy that song at that time? What. The. Fuck.But that leads me to think…He was dropped from his label. He was taken care of. Eventually they all are. Because only certain things survive.  Hip-hop has its own way of “thinning” out the herd.Being such purists for dope lyrics and anything spat by Electronica sprinkled with some Def,  we sit here lighting our torches and burn anything that is Gucci…or Soulja Boy…or just not lyrical.  We sit here and curse out Pill, boo Oj, and laugh at Max.  We make trending topics about Flo-Rida’s hairline, break weed up on Mims’ album, and delete our bootlegged version of Fat Joe’s new album.O my Hip Hop purists.  How I love you so.I AM AN ANGRY HIP HOP PURIST AND I’M NOT GOING TO TAKE IT ANYMORE.I AM TIRED OF THE BULLSHIT ON THE RADIO.I AM ANGRY THAT HIP HOP IS SO COMMERCIALIZED.I AM MAD THAT CD’S DON’T SELL ANYMORE.I HATE THAT A LOT OF RAPPERS ARE ILLITERATE AND DO NOT KNOW THEIR HISTORY.I HATE 78% OF YOUNG MONEY.Yes. I am angry as shit. I want to hear some dope music on the radio but I know it is not feasible. Millions of dollars are funneled into stations like Hot 97 to get teeny boppers excited about tickets they have no chance of winning.We get angry at what was once something and try to grab on to any form of hope from circa 2000. When Hip-Hop was dope and full of life. Beef was rife in the air, and a young Jacques was asking his father why Eminem’s eyes were so red during his performance of “Forgot About Dre”. Beanie and Jay were still friends. Shyne was not in jail. Ja Rule was relevant. 50 Cent was on the verge of being dope.But we’re over that now. I think that we, as Hip-hop purists, the ones that ridicule our girlfriend’s music and completely abscond from the radio, need to just accept that it’s over.That time is done.  Finished.Fin.Now we are forced to scavenge the blogs and internet for music that is up to OUR standards. Really…Who the fuck cares?None of you artists are going to take me back, remind me, or emulate what was so dope that HAPPENED already. Why sit here and complain about things we cannot change?  No, do not give me that crap about “calling in” and voting nonsense.  If it is not a “hit” it won’t “hit”.  Get it?And on the internet we are still shafted. Forced to wait for projects that take too long to drop, or downloading an anticipated project…just to find out half the songs were already released on other tapes. That is annoying. Very annoying.  However, we need to mature as a group. We need to stop bitching about other people’s music that we do not care about and just let it happen. Why?Natural selection is the process by which heritable traits that make it more likely for an organism to survive and successfully reproduce become more common in a population over successive generations.Don’t worry. This era of terrible hip-hop is going to pass. You don’t hear Lil Boosie on the radio anymore do you?  Shit.
