So during the American Music Awards, American Idol runner-up and openly gay singer Adam Lambert kissed another man on stage, and simulated a sexual act during his performance. Well after this "shocking" performance, over 1,500 viewer complaints came in to ABC, this set off a campaign leading to Lambert’s Good Morning America outdoor concert being canceled. Wow, so in 24hrs this seemingly unknown artist became public enemy #1. C'mon son!!! What is this really about? Is it that young Adam was trying to be shocking or was that he did something people are afraid of? I think it's both, artist who frequently take risk are always encouraged to push the envelope and take it to a place where it becomes taboo. We all remember during the 2004 Super Bowl halftime show Justin Timberlake ripped off a piece of Janet Jacksons clothes and reveled, for 9/16th of a second, Jackson’s bare nipple. As a result CBS received 582,000 complaints and the Federal Communications Committee (FCC) levied fines against CBS for the incident upwards of $550,000. Will the same thing happen again? What is this fear of the gay man? Check out what Lambert had to say about the incident at the AMA's:

In Lambert’s case I’m shocked that this is what shocked 1,500 people, I mean in a year in which our own President has been called everything from a fascist, Marxist, socialist, terrorist, Muslim extremist, racist, the devil, and a liar, you would think people would be shocked by that alone, but no people are still in shock and fear of the gay man. Why are people still in shock and fear of the gay man?, when there are so many other things to be shocked by, for instance I'm shocked that a heath care bill has yet to be passed, I'm shocked that New Orleans hasn't been rebuilt, I'm shocked that in 8 years we still haven't rebuilt the World Trade Centers, I'm shocked that in countries around the world women have no rights at all, I'm shocked that gays can't get married or serve openly in the military, I'm shocked that health care isn't as important as freedom of speech, I'm shocked that we are still at war. Those are the things people should be shocked by, not a performer on stage performing. What will we be shocked by next? What shocks you?
