"There is no passion to be found in playing small- in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living." -Nelson Mandela

Amazing, Unbelievable, Unforgettable, are just some of the words that come to mind when I think about my recent trip to South Africa! This experience will always be one of the most memorable moments in my life. I did things I once thought unimaginable like work opposite one of my inspirations Daisy Fuentes (first Latina Vj on MTV) in a Kohl's commercial to experiencing nature in its most raw, natural form. The last few hours of my trip I spent in Somerset, South Africa.

This is where I went to visit Imibala, an organization whose primary purpose is to help disadvantaged children get an education. I couldn't believe how vibrant and excited these kids were to be in school. These children shared stories of their lives & my heart cried out for them. Most of the kids had been struggling from very young ages, some of them searching for meals with their parents (a lot of times school is a guaranteed meal for most) and some kids don't have any parents/guardians at all. But they were all so eager to learn, eager to make a better life for themselves. I immediately knew I had to participate in Imibala. For only 700 rands ($110) I was able to help provide new uniforms and school supplies (So much more fulfilling than spending that money on a pair of jeans!!).

It was at Imibala that I really realized we take so many things for granted every day, the joy they had on their faces when I decided to give them makeovers (something I used to love doing as a little girl with my mom's makeup) was so rewarding, all I wanted to do was have that inner beauty they all possess shine!

If these kids can find a way to make it through the day with smiles on their faces despite their pain, or everyday struggle we can too!

I’m so excited about the 2 kids I am now sponsoring at Imibala. Thanks to Russell Simmons for introducing me to this amazing organization and everyone at Imibala for their hospitality. Although I was there to inspire and bring some joy to these kids’ lives, I've been the one truly inspired!

  • i don't mean to put you on blast or doubt this cause but i'm a sceptical person because i have been taken advantage of.i love to help i know how it is struggle, but what i'm not into is seeing children being used for profitable gain by non-profit organizations.i viewed the web site becuse of my desire to see know child left behind.and noticed same photos with different names and stories .if this a come up its very vain unprecedented and i'm appalled.maybe its a mix up i want dearly to help the right organization.and if i'm wrong i apoligize.
