George Steinbrenner, Yankees Owner, Dies at Age 80

Yankees long-time owner, George Steinbrenner, has died this morning after suffering a massive heart attack.  The 'Boss' as he was nicknamed is the longest owner in Yankees history, having owned the team since 1973.

During Steinbrenner's 37-year ownership of the club, the longest tenure in Bronx Bombers' history, the Yankees won 7 World Series titles and 11 penants.  Having some of the greatest teams in baseball history, George Steinbrenner will surely be missed.

Tampa news outlets reported that emergency crews responded to his home, with Bay News 9 saying Steinbrenner was hospitalized at St. Joseph's Hospital, according to sources.  He later died from the a massive heart attack.

The Ohio-born executive known as 'The Boss' leaves behind his wife of 54 years, Elizabeth Joan Zieg, and their four children -- Hank, Hal, Jessica and Jennifer.
