Prosecutors say a 14-year-old girl's mother and her grandmother have been charged in Houston with forcing the child to work as a prostitute.

The women, ages 33 and 55, remained in the Harris County Jail on Friday. Investigators say the mother, Alicia Melchor, is charged with compelling prostitution of a minor and held on $20,000 bond.

The grandmother, Elizabeth Buford, faces the same charge, plus is charged with possession of a controlled substance, heroin. The older woman's bond was set at $35,000.
