No, I’m not in D.C., nor did I make an attempt at the pilgrimage to the nation’s capitol. I chose to watch the inauguration of Barack Obama from a very special and familiar place, on the crème, micro suede couch in my living room, which was also where I watched as Obama got elected as our first African American and 44th president.
I can only imagine the excitement that went on as he took the oath and was sworn into office. For a moment, it felt like all of our problems were solved and that our new president would single handedly revive the economy since so many people are making money selling Obama t-shirts, hats, shirts, jeans and anything else they can plaster his picture on (lol). One thing that is for sure, people have started partying again, now that Obama was elected.
Jeezy or Hov, if you’re reading this – I need a copy of the “My President is Black (Remix)” ASAP!!!
The election and all the talk about change caused me to take an introspective look. Barack Obama is a symbol of hope and extraordinary courage. He ran a campaign with class and dignity and without selling out. Through his accomplishments, he’s challenging everyone who has a sphere of influence to be the change they would like to see. And with that, I pledge to be a change agent and not just a spectator. I would also encourage my peers and everyone else in the entertainment community to do the same. The future is only going to be as good as we make it.
I just hope CNN doesn’t show any more coverage of people singing songs that they’ve made up about Obama.
