REACTION?

The opportunity to be Editor-In-Chief of Global Grind is an exciting and remarkable responsibility that I readily accept.  This is another chance for me further to serve the interests of the hip-hop community.

As hip-hop has evolved into a true global, multidimensional cultural phenomena, Global Grind presents a unique  transcendent online platform for all the eloquent, diverse leaders of the culture to be read, heard, seen and felt.

I love hip hop in all its dimensions.  Whether it is gangster rap or conscious rap or gospel rap, it all has an important expressive purpose.  I love the images, the style, the fashion, the drama, the hustle and the social and political ramifications that the culture exudes.  I love it all.

But mostly I love how hip hop has helped change the quality of life of people and continues to change the world.

At this profound moment of change that is taking place in the political, economic, social, and cultural consciousness of billions of people throughout the world, the global hip-hop community is helping to reshape and transform the worldwide landscape of public dialogue and debate concerning the critical issues and challenges of the 21st Century.

From the earliest stages of the evolution of the culture to today, hip-hop has always called for transformation and social change.

What hip-hop has done for race relations is unprecedented from Run DMC being the first rap group on MTV to the Run's House becoming the first family of MTV.  I witnessed firsthand how hip-hop forced NY state to change the repressive Rockefeller Drug Laws.  I watched them force NY City to put hundreds of millions of dollars back into the public education budget. Then I saw them pick the US President when no one else believed it was even possible.

So connecting their voices and expressions is going to be good for their communities.   Too many media companies don't get the big picture associated today with hip- hop.  I want to be one that does and transmit that big picture all over the world.  Global Grind will open the door wider and smarter.

President Barack H. Obama in his Inaugural Address affirmed,  "We are in a new era of responsibility." And as we take back the responsibility to fight poverty, ignorance and intolerance, we can and will make a difference.

Through our blogs, videos, interactive technology, syndication tools on Facebook and our trend-setting connections to mainstream media, Global Grind will advance significantly the effectiveness and impact of the dialogue and will shine numerous spotlights on the wide range of celebrity bloggers and the new generation of online leaders.

  • The Devil has entered into this world in an tougher way than ever. He is now hitting mankind harder in the economy due to years of man being corrupted.Banks going under, stores closing faster, jobs being lost people will soon go out of there minds to try to make it.

Centuries after Centuries things gotten worst but now it is at finally it's climax!
To all who are finacially wealthy,I say thank the giver of gifts and to do your best to help others in need by remembering where God brought you all from. Give not thanks to man but to THE ALMIGHTY GOD for all his Jewels!!!!
  • Feeling love and kindness towards others, I believe starts by our seeking it from it's genuine source, God the Father. Or it may only be a empty act. I as a white guy can't drive through So. Central L.A. yelling out the window to Poor, hurting Black, White or Hispanic children that Jesus loves them, then just drive on by. This sort of phony act has always stuck in my craw. Love and kindness is action that costs. A kind word, listening, giving, trying to provide comfort to the hurting, every day, a reflection of the father. Your ongoing good works are a reflection of the Father. We do get when we give. Love ya Russell and Rev. keep doin your good thing. David Cook, Real Love Song, L.A.
  • Mr. Simmons

I read today about a Non-Profit Organization that Best Buy started, or is involved with, that is being promoted by Ludacris, Magic Johnson, and others.

The reason i am writing to everyone on this list is to hope that the idea that I am presenting can make it in front of the eyes that can make something happen with it. I believe that with the current online format that is already in place, my plan can be implemented with ease, yet with modifications.

Please take a moment to read the proposal. Please get in touch with me if this interests you, or help me get this seen by the correct people.

  • A “SINGLE VOICE PROJECT” is the official name of the petition sponsored by: The National Public Service Council To Abolish Private Prisons (NPSCTAPP)

THIS PETITION SEEKS TO ABOLISH ALL PRIVATE PRISONS IN THE UNITED STATES, (or any place subject to its jurisdiction)

The National Public Service Council To Abolish Private Prisons (NPSCTAPP) is a grass roots organization driven by a single objective. We want the United States government to reclaim sole authority for state and federal prisons on US soil.

We want the United States Congress to immediately rescind all state and federal contracts that permit private prisons “for profit” to exist in the United States, or any place subject to its jurisdiction. We understand that the problems that currently plague our government, its criminal justice system and in particular, the state & federal bureau of prisons (and most correctional and rehabilitation facilities) are massive. However, it is our solemn belief that the solutions for prison reform will remain unattainable and virtually impossible as long as private prisons for profit are permitted to operate in America.

Prior to the past month, and the fiasco of Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, AIG, Lehman Brothers, and now the “Big Three” American Automobile manufacturers, the NPSCTAPP has always felt compelled to highlight the “moral Bottom line” when it comes to corrections and privatization. Although, we remain confounded by the reality that our government has allowed our justice system to be operated by private interests. The NPSCTAPP philosophy has always been “justice” should not be for sale at any price. It is our belief that the inherent and most fundamental responsibility of the criminal justice system should not be shirked, or “jobbed-out.” This is not the same as privatizing the post office or some trash pick up service in the community. There has to be a loss of meaning and purpose when an inmate looks at a guard’s uniform and instead of seeing an emblem that reads State Department of Corrections or Federal Bureau of Prisons, he sees one that says: “Atlas Prison Corporation.”

Let’s assume that the real danger of privatization is not some innate inhumanity on the part of its practitioners but rather the added financial incentives that reward inhumanity. The same logic that motivates companies to operate prisons more efficiently also encourages them to cut corners at the expense of workers, prisoners and the public. Every penny they do not spend on food, medical care or training for guards is a dime they can pocket. What happens when the pennies pocketed are not enough for the shareholders? Who will bailout the private prison industry when they hold the government and the American people hostage with the threat of financial failure…“bankruptcy?” What was unimaginable a month ago merits serious consideration today. State and Federal prison programs originate from government design, and therefore, need to be maintained by the government. It’s time to restore the principles and the vacated promise of our judicial system.

John F. Kennedy said, “The time to repair the roof is while the sun is shinning”. Well the sun may not be shinning but, it’s not a bad time to begin repair on a dangerous roof that is certain to fall…. because, “Incarcerating people for profit is, in a word WRONG”

There is an urgent need for the good people of this country to emerge from the shadows of cynicism, indifference, apathy and those other dark places that we migrate to when we are overwhelmed by frustration and the loss of hope.

It is our hope that you will support the NPSCTAPP with a show of solidarity by signing our petition. We intend to assemble a collection of one million signatures, which will subsequently be attached to a proposition for consideration. This proposition will be presented to both, the Speaker Of The House Of Representatives (Nancy Pelosi) and the United States Congress.

Please Help Us. We Need Your Support. Help Us Spread The Word About This Monumental And Courageous Challenge To Create Positive Change. Place The Link To The Petition On Your Website! Pass It On!

The SINGLE VOICE PETITION and the effort to abolish private “for profit” prisons is the sole intent of NPSCTAPP. Our project does not contain any additional agendas. We have no solutions or suggestions regarding prison reform. However, we are unyielding in our belief that the answers to the many problems which currently plague this nation’s criminal justice system and its penal system in particular, cannot and will not be found within or assisted by the private “for profit” prison business. The private “for profit” prison business has a stranglehold on our criminal justice system. Its vice-like grip continues to choke the possibility of justice, fairness, and responsibility from both state and federal systems.

These new slave plantations are not the answer!

  • "Hip Hop! It started out in the park! We used to do it in the dark!" Not many of us envisioned an artform that had such humble beginnings would transform itself and the world as hip hop has. We have not only come from the parks in the burroughs of NY to vote for and elect a President, we have elected a President who is hip hop himself! Barack has hip hop all throughout him. It permeates his being. From the way he walks to the way he say's, "God bless the United States of America!", you can see A Tribe Called Quest in him. So the influence of this artform, the cry into the womb through the voice of the peoples needs, has birth a phenomenon like nothing else seen on earth. Our creativity has spawned many movements, but hip hop is unique in that it has spoken to and influenced the power structure to it's advantage without having been crumbled. It's not a structured organization that can be infiltrated like the Black Panthers. It's loosely structured, kind of like cells. If it's current leaders are disposed of, its infrastructure will not perish. Why? One because there is no infrastructure. And two because it has struck it's enemies where they are the weakest..in their pockets. Our Gov't profits from hip hop as does the world financial markets. That alone ensures that from a power perspective it's not going anywhere. So from those parks in NY to the streets of China, hip hop is here to stay. And I'm glad that you my brotha, sit at the helm providing direction for it in the future.
    • Well said , my friend...hip hop is the equivalent to me of the meek inheriting the Earth.
    • Absolutely Bro... nothing short of a revolution. But subtle in a way that it didn't really wake the establishment. It weaved itself into American culture and lexicon. And by the time they noticed, their kids were shouting, "F the POLICE!" lol Nothing short of God's grace. Thank you
  • A well put together Site Russ. It's like a one stop shop. You pretty much covered all industry corners. Another project well done.

This will give everyone the opportunity to learn more and more about Hip Hop...and their accomplishments....like you said.. and like we saw... The Hip Hop industry did alot to support Obama...with getting people to vote for the first time...to getting people out to vote who may not have because they thought it wouldnt count....to all indursements...such as commericals and ads that the Hip Hop community played a huge role...Mr.Simmons I only see this website to be big as if not bigger..as Myspace/Facebook....because Hip Hop everybody wants to know about it...who's hot, who's not ...what new, whats in... what's out,and all the lastest gossip.....and I will do my part to inform my friends and family about this site too.
  • This is a wonderful thing. I am a firm believer in the powerful impact Hip Hop has on the entire world. My prayers go up for you Russell and the many lives you reach.
