Last week Russell Simmons made me cry. Sounds juicy, I know but sorry, there is no real scandal to tell. But there is a story - so here it is. As most of you know Russell is an animal rights activist. He truly cares about animals and tries to spread the animal rights message to everyone. Last week, I was his latest "victim". I was in NYC and met with Russell today to talk about blog ideas and some possible collaborations. About ten minutes into the meeting he showed me Tila Tequila's anti fur blog on and the video that accompanied it. To my horror, I saw a fox being beaten and skinned..while it was still alive!!!! My first reaction was to cry (I mean, who wouldn't?) and then to get angry.
Thoughts that blazed through my head were of revenge..you know, someone should take those abusers and f*#king strangle, beat and skin them alive! And lets put them in jail, lets have them know what it feels like to suffer such pain etc. Then, Russell explained that the best and really only way to stop these murders is to hit them where it hurts, in the wallet. If more people saw what happens on fur farms then more will stop buying the fur and we will put them out of business. Makes sense. Of course, I would still like to see these people get a taste of their own medicine and I know I'm not alone. I love animals, I was raised with animals and respect them. I was speechless when I saw this and it affected me deeply. I know that there are much more fashionable and compassionate ways to stay warm in the winter so I'm pleading with you to watch the video below and join me in the fight. Animals feel pain and suffer exactly the same way as you or I do. They weren't put on this planet so that we could do whatever we wanted to them and not be held accountable.
If I can change one person's mind about wearing fur by writing this blog then I'm happy. Of course, I would be much happier to change everyone's mind about fur. And yes, I'd be happy to have my five minutes with one of those animal abusers in a dark alley as well but like Russell said, the only way to really stop them is to put them all out of business.

Fur equals pain and suffering. Period. And for my girls out there, if you watch this video you WILL cry so make sure you have your waterproof mascara on first. Its a killer. Literally.
