LOS ANGELES, Oct. 10 (UPI) -- Chinese authorities will allow a documentary about the late U.S. pop star Michael Jackson to be shown in their country, a cinema industry official says.
Li Chow, vice president of Sony Pictures Entertainment in China, said "Michael Jackson: This Is It" was given one of China's 20 annual foreign movie import slots, paving the way for an Oct. 28 release, Variety reported Friday.
"This Is It" features footage of Jackson as he prepared for a series of concerts in London prior to his June 25 death at the age of 50.
Variety said the film, directed by Kenny Ortega, will attempt to capitalize on Jackson's popularity in China and enjoy similar success to "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen," which set a box-office record in China with $59 million.
