Hey Global Grind!!!

Ok, so like most people, I kind of stared at the TV a lil weird when it said that Obama had won the Nobel Peace Prize. My first thought was yeaah for President Obama because I rock with this guy and sleep a little better at night knowing that he is the leader of the Free World (no pun intended I swear!).  My second wave of thoughts were Hmmm, he is definitely an agent for peace, he definitely represents a less arrogant America, one that believes allies are better than foes, and he definitely has made specific steps to let all world leaders know that he wants some unity going forward, but the Nobel Peace Prize already? he hasn't even been president for a year.  Isn't that honor created for those that have dedicated their entire lives to creating and maintaining Peace around the world?  So, I had to go check some fats to get some answers because surely the Nobel Peace Prize Commission didnt set out to make a mockery of the prize or this historic presidency...did they?

Here's what I found:
The Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded 90 times to 120 Nobel Laureates between 1901 and 2009 – 97 times to individuals and 23 times to organizations. Some past re cipients include Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King Jr., Mother Theresa, Desmond Tutu, The International Committee of the Red Cross;League of Red Cross societies and The United Nations childrens fund. When I look at the previous winners I have always associated achieveing  this honor with struggle, sacrifice and unwavering faith in a mission and again a lifetime of work. Well I  learned something when i read the rules for choosing the Nobel Peace Prize Winner and here's what I read that I didn't know:

On 27 November 1895, Alfred Nobel signed his last will and testament, giving the largest share of his fortune to a series of prizes, the Nobel Prizes. As described in Nobel's will, one part was dedicated to "the person who shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses in the last year".Each year the respective Nobel Committees send individual invitations to thousands of qualified mem bers of academies, university professors, scientists from numerous countries, previous Nobel Laureates, members of parliamentary assemblies and others, asking them to submit candidates for the Nobel Prizes for the coming year.   No one can nominate him- or herself. To date, the youngest Nobel Peace Prize Laureate is Mairead Corrigan, who was 32 years old when she was awarded the Prize in 1976.

So as I watched all the tv news reports and read all the articles and editorials that questioned the nomination of the 44th president I realized something.

President Obama does deserve the Nobel Peace Prize (see italic/bold above for definition). What we aren't used to is someone being ho nored for their achievements in a timely apprpriate manner, we also are trained to think they have to have sat in jail or marched against racist water hose spraying cops to win. Maybe just maybe the Nobel Peace Committee is more in tune than we know. See,  if this is the definition of a Nobel Peace Prize Winner:"the person who shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses in the last year"? Then surely they have chosen the right man.

Oh :-)  and oddly enough, I found a poem that I scribbled while watching the inauguration back in January and thought that I would share it with you...Enjoy!  Have a blessed day.

Love, Free

TODAY IS A "TO DO" DAY

A day to      reflect on what it means to be an American

A day to      respond to those that say you can't, with YES I CAN

A day to      rearrange negative thoughts into positive ones

A day to      remember those before us and their sacrifices

A day to      react with laughter, love and support

A day to      re-energize our spirits

A day to      respect the struggles our ancestors endured, survived

A day to      rise up against division, we are all one

A day to      recognize that your votes do and did count!!!!!!

A day to      rescind hate and anger over the past and to rejoice in love, hope, and the

                   possibilities of the future

Remember TO DO today What we didn't, couldn't DO yesterday, which is to walk around with our heads held higher, our intentions to accomplish greater, our dreams to reach higher.  We have a new President and his name is President Barack Obama.  Congratulations voters our work has just begun.

  • President Obama didn't have to make the change needed to be honored with a Nobel Peace Prize...he IS the change!
  • Salute my Sister. You Put it all in A nut shell. The Ones That responded differently,Has to be the Enemy of everything Barrack is set out to do.(Haters) We must have Barrack monitors out here Trying to Poison our Peoples minds with negativity. You quoted Facts, and they still disagree with the Decision The Nobel Peace Prize Board came up with. "the person who shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses in the last year"? And in The Past year,Obama has stood up to the worst of worst Armies that there is.(The Enemy) Once Again. However,we as A Nation is up against A cold war within the Past 10-11 Months; Swine Flu,Banks still not giving Loans,But still getting rich,Car Companies getting Bailed out,But Jobs at theese same Factories is rediculous and If you Made A nice amount in the Plants,Your cut in half and this brings Foreclosures. And to me it seems as though the Enemy is putting Preasure on the Offense(Obama) and everybody that support Him,Free. And Not to mention the War that the Bush Admin. Left for Him to deal with. By the Time Obama is out of Office,He will Win the Prize Again. You Copy That Enemies. Again. And Thank You for much deserved Information,my sister. Peace to the Positive Forces in this Universe!!!!!!!!

  • Got love for Obama..I voted for him and all...but in all honesty i do feel like it was too soon for him to get the noble peace...simply because he hasnt had a chance to make that change yet..u kno? I feel the prize should have been given once he accomplished everything(or atleast one) of the things he said he was gnna do.Either way thats jus my opinion. Thanks Free!
  • Thank you for sharing as well as stating the fact. I was confused at first! I now get it. Thank you. Truly.
  • haha the blackest sheep is dead on... their just makin the rest of the old stubborn people love the puppet too.. how could you not see that.. i imagine celebrities would know more than i do...
  • I'm befuddle and overly joyed on how the beautiful sista Free has clearly articulated the emotions and feelings of many americans concerning the nobel and election night. As a person who have the met the president and his wife these people are real as they come. His greatest acheivements we have yet to see. The world is a better place with a leader who understands reason and logic.

    tranquility and blessings!

  • To the Blackest Sheep, you cannot blame The President for the mishap of Darien Albert. Regardless of the Olympics or anything that he was addressing there would be no way that he could have prevented the act from happening. Only God can. To everyone else who think that he doesn't deserve the award, you guys need to do research. Although, he has been in office for 10 months he accomplished a lot before he became the President. If you want to Google something. Google that!
  • The only reason the powers that be gave Obama this prize is to keep the dying love affair with this man going. People are starting to wake up and see that Obama is just like the rest of his blood relatives that came before him. (All U.S. presidents are blood related)

When Darrien Albert got his brains bashed out where was Obama?? He was so caught up in bidding for the Olympics that the only statement the white house released was that it was "chlling" Obama don't desearve this prize. The time has come for us to take off our rose colored glasses and see this man for who he really is. Google Zbigniew Brzezinski and the Obama connection a name (Brzezinski) I bet most of you never heard of.Obama is really just another PUPPET of Zbigniew Brzezinski and The CFR... follow the REAL paper trail and see where all the money that flowed into his campaign coffers came from and you will see THE TRUTH, this man is brought and paid for.
  • i agree with free this was the right man for this nobel prize he is wonderful !!!1
  • Disasters happen in seconds, Clean up and repair can take years. Aint that right New Orleans, He's been in office 10 months and he is running into opposition at every step about everything. Change comes slow when noone agrees with what your doing or even who you are. I dont think Dr. King got the result he was looking for in 10 months, it took years and his death. What are you willing to pay? There is no magic wand he can wave and make it all 1996 again(1996 was the last time America had a balance budget with surplus funds)in stead of bitching in the blogs how about you b*tch to your local & state represenatives.

    Thank you

  • Ok I love the article but however I still think its a political move. I don't think he should of got it. I think its all a plan, but to each is own.Media will be media. What gets me is the timing of it all. The health care reform, gay rights, etc. Just to smooth us over that's all.NOTHING IS WHAT IT SEEMS PERIOD!!
