As if Lil Wayne needed more legal hassles, a Manhattan federal court suit says the prison-bound rapper and label mate Birdman used a Florida man's voice without permission on Mafia-theme song intros for their "Like Father, Like Son" and "Birdman 5* Stunna" CDs.
Thomas Marasciullo claims the rappers and Cash Money Records asked him in 2006 to say into a mike such goombahesque utterances as "If you're with us, you're with us" and "Family is a big thing." They then used the recordings without compensating him, the suit says.
Marasciullo, who had met the rappers through his recording-engineer son, Fabian, said he realized he'd been ripped off when his daughter, seeking an Aretha Franklin "R-e-s-p-e-c-t" ring tone, got "Respect" from Birdman's "Like Father, Like Son" -- with her dad's voice on it.
If Thomas Marasciullo was dumb enough to get involved with these rappers and even dumber not to get everyting in writing then that is his problem. Lil Wayne had better resolve this mess before he has to pick up his supply of lubricant on his way to the big house.
