Xilla's 8 Perfect Reasons Precious Should Be In More Theaters

Earlier this week I got the chance to check out Precious and I must say I was blown away. The movie is based on the novel Push. I remember years back my girlfriend at the time was reading this book, and I found myself fighting for her time w/ this red book. It wasn't until I watched the film that I truly understand why I had that battle w/ the little red book.

"Precious" is set in Harlem in 1987, it is the story of Claireece “Precious” Jones (Gabourey Sidibe), a sixteen-year-old African-American girl born into a life no one would want.  She’s pregnant for the second time by her absent father; at home, she must wait hand and foot on her mother (Mo’Nique), a poisonously angry woman who abuses her emotionally and physically.  School is a place of chaos, and Precious has reached the ninth grade with good marks and an awful secret: she can neither read nor write.

It's definitely a must see film. In fact, I'm going to give you 8 reasons to go see this tonight.

1) Oprah & Tyler Perry came together to give you one of the most important movies of our time.

2) Mo'nique's acting in this film is some of the best acting I've seen in a film in a long time. She nails this role like no other and it is 100% reversal from the Mo'nique you get on her show. This is acting.

3) Go see this movie for all the times you were forced to watch Soul Plane on network television.

4) Paula Patton's role in this film puts her at the top of the list when it comes to actresses of color. She has so much passion in this film you forget that this is a movie and not real life. This movie puts Paula among the greatest in Hollywood.

5) You'll fall in love w/ Gabourey Sidibe. She sends you on a roller coaster ride of emotions as you see her hard life through her eyes.

6) Love comes to the big screen as you watch friendships build, and love develop between the cast of this movie. The girls in this film bond in a way that touches your heart because you witness their struggle to learn.

7) This will be the best spend 10 dollars you spend in a long time.

8) This film more than makes up for every second of Glitter. Mariah is almost unnoticeable in this movie.

Over all, I would give this movie a 5 out of 5.  So when you're at the box office this weekend trying to decide on what you should see, remember that Precious is the movie that will make you laugh, cry and send you on a ride better than anything at Six Flags.

  • my question is the movie as good as the book if not then i dont want to waste my time the book made me cry to think that any child could endure such abuse and to know that there are actually children out here going through the same thing and have no idea who or where to turn to
  • The movie looks really good.
    Oscar worthy.
I have to make time to go see it.
Been a while since a movie like this has been made.
  • how can you call watching such suffering entertainment...i mean of course i wish it wasnt true...but making these movies only serve to make money for those involved with it....it has no medicinal value.....just cashing in on pain....how about some shyt that makes you feel good without a price
    • I beg to differ. Hopefully, someone who is going through something like this, can watch this movie and realize that abuse of any kind is UNACCEPTABLE. I pray that those who are going through this kind of ordeal, can watch it, and make the necessary step towards a better, happier life. Does it make sense to you now?
    • also, all the proceeds are going to help victims of abuse.
  • the book was phenomenal!

  • I'm definitely going to see it. I saw a interview Gabby did and was blown away. She will get my 10 bucks!
  • I am almost done with this book, and I am looking forward tot he movie!
  • Mind blowing....classic....Thank you....
  • I can't wait to see this, although i hope the audiences had a chance to experience the book before seeing this film.....it's an experience that leaves you appreciating every obstacle that you've ever overcame. The story is sad, but it is also real talk. I mean the color purple was just as sad and just as raw....just a different setting. So once again, let's go out and support these black actresses and film directors because lord knows, the academy awards is not going to!!!!! yeah, real talk!
  • The novel "Push" made me laugh, cry and most of all filled me up with hope for the future. I cannot wait to see the words come to life in this movie!

FYI...Lee Daniels directed this movie and Geoffrey Fletcher wrote the screenplay based on the novel "Push" by Sapphire. Tyler Perry and Oprah are just presenting it so that it will reach a wider audience. Although the movie speaks for itself, their endorsements will go along way in giving it the exposure it needs to be successful in at the box office. Then hopefully it can be released in more cities across the U.S. and beyond!

  • Yo dis is wack!!! there not playing it in OSIDE!!! OR WILDOMAR!!! OR LAKE ELSINORE!!!! how am i supposed to watch it now????
  • I don't go see dramas in the movies, but I'll put this on my Netflix queue for when it hits DVD. I only see blockbusters. Period.
  • I hope the black community actually goes out and sees this movie in theaters...or else there will barely be any black movies being made anymore...the reason now that black movies are not made much in hollywood now is because most blacks don't goto the movies and then they buy the bootleg so there goes the profit to recoup the cost to make the movie from DVD sales as well as the box office...so basically, there is almost no money to be made with black films so hollywood doesn't want to invest in the actors or the movies cuz its proven to be a waste of money and time...so young black girl/boy that want's to be the next halle berry or will smith or spike lee, then i urge you to support our black actors, actresses, directors and producers by spending ur money on something of value rather than rims and fake jewelry
    • thats whats up
    • true...which is why it took 2 powerhouse moguls to bring this to the big screen!!
