A Diamond Equals Love

A Diamond Equals Love

catchthedesigners.com Check out my blog entry from Macy's "Catch The Designers" website. I was at Macy’s at Stone Crest Mall last Saturday and the support we had was really a gift. I want to thank all the people that came out to support the Catch The Designers Fashion Show. One of the positive things that happened is we sold many of the Green Bracelets and we got so much support and interest in the Diamond Empowerment Fund and its mission to empower Africans through education. I’m in the jewelry business because I knew that the people who support my fashion brands have a real interest in jewelry and diamonds, but I wanted to make sure that my company did the right thing by the people that live in the African communities the diamonds are a natural resource. Every diamond sold by Simmons Jewelry Co. complies with the Kimberley Process and is technically conflict free. But I want to see more benefit to the people where the natural resource of diamonds is benefiting so many people around the world who are part of the jewelry industry or are consumers of diamond jewelry. Nelson Mandela is an inspiration to me and after meeting with him at his home in Mozambique, I knew I had to start a non profit organization that would focus on education programs in the communities in Africa where diamonds are a natural resource. The idea is that a diamond equals love, not just on an engagement ring or a necklace and instead of taking away a natural resource (diamonds) we would be investing more in the ultimate natural resource – human beings . . .
