After speaking with the mother of one of the victims of the televised Philly cop-beating, the Reverend Al Sharpton said the display of unjust excessive police force was “worse than Rodney King,” prompting an immediate response from the black police chief who warned against “outsiders fanning the flames…from afar.”

  • this has to stop. It can't stop until society deals with the race card issue. I can't believe the response of this black police chief. Evidently two things he's gotta be that uncle called Tom livin way back in the day, and maybe because he holds that office he thinks this type of thing can't happen to him and his family. Wrong way to think chief. you ain't no better as chief than a kkk member the only thing is you're black and they hate your azzizzle too.
  • Niki Mari, I agree with you 110%. Police are not judge and jury and until they go through the judicail system they are innocent until proven guilty. I'm sitting right on the fence, my son is a police officer and I don't want him shot down because some criminal doesnt want to go back to jail, however, that so called criminal is not guilty until proven so, the police DO NOT have the right to beat someone to bloody death!
  • Don't get it twisted. No matter what those people were doing in that car, the police do not have the right to be judge and jury. Okay. Remember, police make mistakes, they are human. The people in that car could have been you, your mama, or your brother. Until people are arrested, tried and convicted, no one deserves to be treated like that. If you forget that they are hired to apprehend, not beat people, then you can expect more of the same...maybe it might be you nex time.
  • YES IT WAS WRONG FOR THE COPS TO BEAT THEM BUT THEY SHOULDNT HAVE BEEN LOOKING SUSPECT. FOR ONE THEY WERE AT THE SCENE OF A PREVIOUS MURDER OF THEIR FRIEND , TWO THEY WERE ALL COOPED UP IN THE CAR LIKE SARDINS, WE ALL KNOW A BUNCH OF BLACKS PERIOD IS A CAR STOP, HELLO? THEN THE COPS WERE ALREADY LOOKING FOR A BLACK MAN WHO KILLED ONE THEIRS. I'M FROM PHILLY AND BOTH MY PARENTS ARE VETERAN POLICE OFFICERS AND I STILL DONT THINK ITS RIGHT FOR THE POLICE TO ACT ABOVE THE LAW CAUSE THOSE BROTHERS COULD'VE BEEN MINE
  • This is some bull. I am so tired of the police just doing whatever they want to. This is so heart breaking. God is still in the control. The devil is very busy. Please pray for this brother. The city of brotherly luv what you going to do?
  • I hate cops.
  • Agree with Craig Redman. It's simple: an unarmed suspect can be detained, cuffed, and transported without the beating. These cops were sending a message to the streets after the shooting of one of their colleagues. What does that sound like? Eye for an eye justice? Street justice? Yes. Police departments are organized crime with an endorsement from the state to do whatever, whenever with impunity. How do we change the condition? Agressive, radical political awakening. We have to change the laws that govern to change the system. Think local: community boards and associations, school boards, city and county boards and commissions, etc. I digress.
  • @dcb514 - You're right I do pay, and may I add my tax bracket is ridiculous, I pay for people to do their job and last time I checked an officers job wasn't to perform mass a** whippings of suspects. I pay for a judicial system - which is exactly how suspects should be processed.

Police are not the judge and jury even if they think they are because again they are suspects and have yet to be found guilty. The fact that people think it's okay to beat someone that could in fact be innocent, or not, is asinine to me. Those same people are the ones that stand up at rallies later crying b/c their innocent (or not so innocent) son, husband, father or brother got pistol whipped or stopped and interrogated by an officer.
  • My position is not a popular one. First of all, why do we feel sorry for people who terror our communities? Maybe if there was something to terrorize them, public beatings???!??!!, then some would chose not to do crimes, get jobs, pay bills, etc. Crime has become regular lifestyles while we, the mainstream, support it with out tax dollars. We pay people to "apprehend" them, we pay people to over over them, we pay people to try and convict them, we pay more people to house, feed and give medical care them them. What is that they pay. I say if some got a good butt whipping, maybe they may chose to do the right thing when face with the choice of doing crimes or going to work. Sorry, but that's just how I see it.
  • Look, I don't get mad at a family when they leave some food on the stove and nearly burn a whole apartment building down. I signed up to do the job of putting out the fire. That doesn't give me the right to get urinated off and treat that family different than the one who had a short in their electrical wiring. If you sign up for the job, you know what you are getting into. If you can't take it, get another job. Don't nobody deserve to have the crap beat out of them like that. Okay, I take that back. Molesters and Rapist do. Were these guys either of those?

IF YOU ARE A COP AND THINK THIS IS OKAY, YOU ARE BRAIN WASHED BY THE SYSTEM.
  • There is always more to a picture. Until u put your life on the line as a job you shouldn't judge. have u ever had someone fight u for doing your job, or when you pull over a car they shoot at you. If you can, take the time to do a ride along with your police department. and c if your jerkdon't pucker up when you stop a guy with a gun sitting on his lap and he dose't want to go back to jail
  • If they're suspects, cuff them & toss 'em in the car. You don't have to stomp people out and beat them like dogs.
  • this don't make no sense..darn shame
  • And they wonder why a lot of people dont Respect the Police Now!!
  • This isn't a reality show, no one sat there and edited the footage that was shown this is something completely undeniable and to say that they were beat b/c a cop was shot and they are the alleged suspects is ridiculous - stop making excuses and make history, Philly, by indicting each police officer involved.
