It's a common misconception that you have to cut out the fat to lose weight, thats only partly true. Yes you have more calories in fat than you do in protein and carbohydrate calories.... but with that being said, body fat comes from stored calories and your body doesn't care if the calories come from fat, protein, or carbs. So it is smart to monitor the amount of fat in your diet, but if its healthy fat, like the kind found in fish, olive oil or nuts, there is no reason to exclude it from your diet.
Remember, the body does need fat to function. Fat regulates our body temperature, necessary for healthy hair (helps keep it from falling out) and insulates our vital organs... it also stores energy that our bodies draw from to function. It is however wise to avoid saturated and trans fats. A good rule of thumb is if you can't see thru it, don't cook with it!
