What gas costs in China.

Atlanta Tribune - I recall, not too long ago, being bothered by such prices, actually complaining. But, oh, how our standards do change. I would love to see such numbers on a gas station's signage today. While we're at 4 something and climbing, Beijing is holding their gas prices at bay, subsidizing oil companies in the process. Economists say it's all a smoke and mirrors tactic, but I can imagine how nice it must be, psychologically for the public. I personally wouldn't mind a little salve to my consumer psyche right about now.....

  @Mesha is right. It is tempting to go for the "psychological" benefit, but when the govt covers part of the cost for gas, they are just taking the money from our other pocket.

  The problem is not that it's 100% Bush. Many American's do not understand that it is costing companies so much money just to purchase a gallon of oil (which is producing the gas), as well as shipping costs, and please not forget about the shortage overseas... via high cost. We need to be educated on the economic side of things and not just what we see and others say.

  Without all of the taxes that the gov't allows the oil companies to 'pass on' to us we'd probably be paying a similiar amount for gas.
