Racism On The Web: You're Part Of The Problem

www.alleyinsider.com - I was not going to talk about this stuff any more. But Louis Gray’s post on the “racist underbelly” of the web struck a deep chord. He describes how two black bloggers, Wayne Sutton and Corvida, had a live Yahoo video chat to discuss Loren Feldman and the Tech Nigga incident, and the anonymous overtly racist chatter in the video’s text chat room.

I totally feel what he is writing about. But the truth of the matter is, racism is never going to just go away by protesting and boycotting any and everyone who offends a group of people, who are another color other than white!! The only way we can get to see any light at the end of this never-ending tunnel is through, self education. Not only do I mean you personally, but to educate your race on their background and culture!! White people who are racist today, only go off of what we give them, because for years anything they said we couldn't do we did it!! Now all they have to go off of is what we place in front of them which is that sad display he had on his site!! I am not saying all black people act like that, because I don't. But I know you know a african american that do!!

i made the above post before i actually read the comments on the site where this article was originally posted. i had to go walk around my house and clear my head for a minute after that. racism online is appalling and it is indeed scary thinking that you could be working or living near people who think this way. it was really crazy.

the internet has helped racism more than anything else....you can go on something as innocuous as TV show websites and you'll be apalled at what folks can say anonymously. makes you wonder just what your white coworkers go home and say.
