Obama Bashing Covers New Yorker

images.huffingtonpost.com - Well, here we go again. A commando-style Michelle Obama and a Muslim Barack Obama make the New Yorker magazine cover in what appears to be a parody. Is it satire or racism?

I can see how it's "tasteless" and can be viewed as offensive, but to me I think the artist hits the nail on the head when it comes to American media playing into the false imagery and militarization of Michelle and the anti-patriotism of Barack. The New Yorker has always been "tongue-in-cheek" with its political cartoons, I guess this time it's "foot-in-mouth". But no, I'm not offended. Fox News is more offensive by far.

My friend wants me to post her comment.

Why are their lips so pronounced and large - when Obama's are so thin? And why does Michelle have to be wearing an afro?? Have we ever seen her in public wearing one? Does that make her look more aggressive? Less mainstream? More black and worthy of fear and disdain?

What in the h&ll were they thinking? Without question, this magazine is a republican, leftist leaning one that will endorse McCain. Of course they are entitled to their opinion, but they are NOT entitled to belittling the other candidate because of the origins of his name and because of his race.

Did the lily-white, upper-class insensitive management of the New Yorker bother to run this by any minority to pass the diversity "sniff test" before they decided to run it? (No? They don't have any on staff to call? Didn't run it by a panel of experts, either?) To call it satire is cowardly and irresponsible. If they defend this, it's bigotry.
