Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith has spoken publicly for the first time since he treated teammate Ken Lucas’s nose like a punching bag in a training camp practice Friday, saying all the things players usually say a couple of days after they do something that gets them in trouble. “I feel horrible,” Smith told Pro Football Weekly. “That’s the thing I don’t think people realize, is how remorseful I am and how, in five or six seconds, five or six years has come crashing down. That’s the consequences of my actions. But I won’t let it be the last thing people remember me by as far as a player and as a person.”
