This don't snitch thing has gone too far, 3 people could still have their lives hugs their mothers, and children today if this women could have just said... here he go!! It's a shame!
  • The Connector broke it down the best...Thank you for that!!

When the whole snitching movement began it was already misunderstood from jump street!! That movement was made for the dealers, hustlers, pimps, and all other professions in the underworld! It was a code that simply made known that if you yourself is involved in illegal activity, then you are not supposed to tell on anyone involved in the same activity you are in!!

The fans of hip hop adopted this idea and ran with it to a point where no matter what the crime you don't snitch! Which is stupid!!

We can't be afraid to tell on something we know is wrong!! To snitch is something totally different from protecting your community from any further harm or danger!! So we can't keep living with the attitude of it's not my business!! I ain't no snitch!! f*ck that!!
  • Our Community , black, white, red, green or purple we must learn to how to protect each other. Stop protecting these drugs dealers, these WALL STREET thugs who have no respect for our grandparents mothers and fathers and children. IF YOU SEE WRONG POINT IT OUT! If you don't you could be affecting someone indirectly but because you thought it was more Honorable not to SNITCH versus doing what was right the criminal you allowed to go free killed your mom or your family members!
Someone answer this question for me please.
In this culture what is so honorable about not snitching on individuals who are doing wrong?
  • im telling instantly....
  • I've had what seems like a natural dislike for the police all my life. I come from the era that produced "Black Cop", "F the Police", and "Cop Killa". I lived in the community where they rode through with the windows up, never mingling with the people, and only protecting the businesses that profited from our dollars but didn't give a damn about us as people. Further, I've known all too well about the many instances of abuse to blacks, planting evidence on us, killing us, and the outright disrespect that they have historically shown us. All these things have formed a silent law of non-cooperation that is rarely crossed, and snitching is the most disloyal way of crossing that wall.

Having said that, I do agree with the last commentor. And further I accept that there have been recent attempts by law enforcement to reach out to the black community in ways that help us work together to rid our communities of some bad elements. Who want's to live next to a known murderer or rapist? We all want to be able to walk the streets peacefully, and part of doing that is making sure that those who would threaten that peace not be around. We only cooperate with the police in the most extreme of circumstances. I think it's time to re-visit that idea for the sake of our communities.
    • For me it is not just about the police -- cause I would agree with you on the law enforcement issue -- I mean, Busta Rhymes' bodyguard, the man who protects his life, is killed...and Busta is silent. The man who probably took the bullet for Busta and Busta is silent? And he can go on to make millions of dollars with his records. When I hear his records on the radio, I get sick to my stomach...knowing that the person who was protecting him was killed and he just stood silent...I don't get it...I understand that you may be afraid of your life, but if you speak up, that is NOT snitchin. It is the only way to keep our dignity as people.
    • Sorry for just getting back to this because it's such a relevant topic. But regarding the Busta issue, I don't know if I would've played that differently because I don't know the details of it. To me, there are times to involve the police in an issue and times not to. I'm a little old school on that. But I do agree that when it comes to harbouring people who should be brought to justice, cooperating with the police is a good thing.
  • This is a story that I feel compelled to comment on...because it is something that I have felt strongly about for a long time. This idea of snitching is OUT OF CONTROL. And to be honest, this idea came into my mind when Busta wouldn't talk to the police about his bodyguard being killed. Here is my 2 cents -- you can take it or leave it -- If you do dirt, and your boy is doing dirt with you, and you both get caught -- and you rat your friend out to get a lesser sentence, then YOU ARE A SNITCH. But, I am afraid that our generation has been suckered by a bunch of wannabe gangsters talking on records about "stop snitchin" -- and now we have a very skewed view on what snitching is. If someone kills someone in OUR communities and you have nothing to do with it and we know who did it... or forget that...if someone is on a raping spree in our community and we know who it is...are we not going to snitch and wait for our sisters to get raped? we must have some dignity and do what is right for our community and for ourselves...Let's stop hiding behind a few rich rappers who don't even live in our communities anymore, telling us how to behave.
