My name is Arron, and I love this pay per view. I have an mma background of 4 months of training, so I will try to bring in some deep insight in order to break down these fights and will post my predictions at the end of each of them. The odds for these fighters will be provided by Pinnaclesports.com.
This is an unusual card because it has 3 more fights than normal as this fight card will have 12 fights.
I’ll start it off with, Sam “Fists of Stone” Stout -109 vs. “Handsome” Matt Winman -101.
This will be a very underrated stand up war. They both have the majority of their victories from Ko or TKO. However, Sam Stout is not only on a 2 fight losing streak, but he has not won a UFC fight via Knockout. Matt Winman is on the up, he has won 4 out of his last 5 fights, I think Matt WInman will win this fight via Referee’s stoppage due to strikes during the 2nd round.
Ryo Chonan -201 vs. T.J. Grant +181.
I am very mad that this fight will not be on the pay per view card. T J Grant is an up and coming Canadian fighter with a record of 13-2. Out of his 15 fights only one has gone to a decision, so he knows how to finish fights, he has 12 victories by submission. Ryo Chonan who is known for his fame of beating Anderson Silva in Japan with the most beautiful sumission ever, a flying scissors heel hook, is overmatched in my opinion in this fight. Yet he is a 2 to 1 favorite. T J Grant is stepping up in class, but Ryo Chonan has not done anything impressive in the UFC just a 1-2 record since joining, all by decision. He is very much a grinder. I think the oddsmakers are putting way too much emphasis on his victory over Anderson Silva, who has since gone on to being the best pound for pound fighter in the UFC. I pick T J Grant to win the fight via submission, Armbar, 3rd Round.
David Bielkheden +235 vs. Mark Bocek -255
This will be an absolute butt whipping in my opinion. I have very little information about these two fighters but a red flag was set off during weigh ins today. David Bielkheden missed weight by a pound weighing in at 157. This is an automatic pick against play in my opinion. In my experience off MMA, I will call it the Travis Lutter effect, When a man or woman misses weight, it is automatically taken as a lack of discipline. His cardio will not be where it needs to be, he will not have enough time to recover from the extra attempt to cut weight, Mark Bocek, a fellow Canadian will beat the Swede in the 2nd Round via Knockout.
Ed Herman +106 vs. David Loiseau-116
This is an interesting fight. Ed Herman is on a 2 fight losing streak but those losses were not due to his lack of skills but facing great competition in Demian Maia and Alan Belcher. David Loiseau is making his UFC re-debut. He is most famous for his 5 round war with Rich Franklin back in 2006. He was able to knock down Rich Franklin during Rich Franklin’s peak of his career. He has nothing to lose in my opinion. I see this as being the Fight of the Night. They both need to throw caution to the wind, in order to keep their UFC contracts. I see Ed Herman winning a Unanimous decision 29-28 on all three cards.
Jason MacDonald -121 vs. Nate Quarry +111
These two fighters both having something in common, they both have lost to Demian Maia, who is an amazing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practionier. This will be a very big chess match. Nate Quarry is known for his great standup, Jason MacDonald is much more efficient on the ground. This will be a battle of who can impose their will. I think Jason MacDonald will be able to take Nate Quarry to the ground and use effective grappling to win this fight. Jason MacDonald wins submission due to a Rear Naked Choke in the 2nd Round.
Dennis Kang -326 vs. Xavier Foupa-Pokam+296
Dennis Kang is a BJJ Black Belt, but is known for his knockouts. Xavier is making his UFC debut and is a practioner of Muay Thai, Savate, and other forms of Kickboxing. If I am Dennis Kang, I am wanting to take this fight to the ground. I would not want to go toe to toe with although he is French, a very outstanding Kickboxer. I think Dennis Kang will be able to ground Xavier. With Dennis Kang’s great BJJ, he will be able to keep Xavier discombobulated on the ground, he will win a decision 30-27.
Vinicius Magalhaes vs. Eliot Marshall No fight line available.
This will be a ground fight no doubt about it. We remember both of these guys from the last season of the Ultimate Fighter. I believe they both lost to Ryan Bader who become the winner of the Ultimate Fighter. On the ground Vinny has superior ground game, although from what I have seen from him he is a BJJ one trick pony. He has shown proficiency in executing the armbar. That seems to be it, maybe he sets up his armbar with other stuff, but at the end of the day if all he does is attacks Arms, Eliot is going to have a much better chance. If Eliot can also keep the fight standing I do like his chances as well. I see Vinny winning from an armbar in the 1st round.
Onto the 5 Main Card fights, if you have stuck with me through this I applaud you.
Krzysztof Soszynski -156 vs. Brian Stann+146
This will be a fight I am looking forward to. Brian Stann is a former WEC Light Heavyweight Champion, although his opponents were very 1 demensional fighters. No one has been able to take Brian Stann to the ground, although I think the results would be very infavorable to Brian Stann. If Krzysztof can take him to the ground, he should win rather easily. I will Krzysztof in the first round submission via Kimura.
Luis Cane -260 vs. Steve Cantwell+240
Luis Cane is BJJ and Muay Thai specialist. He beat Sokoudjou in his most recent fight. This victory does not impress me. Sokoudjou is a very overrated MMA fighter who has very little ground skills. Steve Cantwell most recently won via Technical submission when he dislocated his opponent’s elbow. Steve Cantwell won the majority of his fights via TKO due to strikes. I think he will pick apart Luis Cane and look for openings and eventually pour it on to to KO Luis Cane. Steve Cantwell wins due to strikes, 3rd Round.
Cheick Kongo -266 vs. Antoni Hardonk+246
This will be a pure Kickboxing fight. Cheick Kongo had an impressive victory at UFC 92. Antoni Hardonk comes out of Holland, and Holland is known for producing amazing Kickboxers most notably the most famous, Bas Rutten. Cheick Kongo is definitely the favorite in this fight, but I see Antoni Hardonk destroying Cheick Kongo’s legs and upper torso for 3 rounds until he can finally put him away with stiff shots to the head. Winner, Antoni Hardonk TKO due to strikes, 3rd Round.
Now to the Co-Main Event of the evening.
Mauricio “Shogun” Rua +164 vs. Chuck “The Iceman” Liddell -174
If this fight goes how I think it will, it will be all Chuck Liddell in this one. Mauricio has not been impressive since he debuted in the UFC vs. Forrest Griffin. His conditioning has been lacking and Mark Coleman took him to the limit, even though Mark Coleman’s cardio was also lacking. Mauricio needs to be in Pride format fights where he can utilize Soccer Kicks and Stomps to the body in order to win fights. Chuck Liddell really needs to win this fight in order to keep his future Light Heavyweight Title hopes alive. Chuck Liddell will not only win Knockout of the Night honors, but he also will win this fight 1st Round KO due to one of his devestating Left Hooks.
The Main Event
Anderson “the Spider” Silva -551 vs. Thales Leites +501
People are thinking that Thales Leites Jiu-Jitsu might be what takes down the seemingly invincible Anderson Silva. I completely disagree. Thales Leites has no business in this title fight. His biggest win has been a Split decision win vs. Nate Marquardt who was docked a point in the 1st and 3rd Round, and still barely lost a split decision. Anderson Silva will pick apart Thales Leites with his unusual striking, his ability to get sick angles and tear people up. Then he will get Thales Leites in the clinch, and destroy him with superior Muay Thai skills. Anderson Silva will win this fight in the 2nd Round due to Muay Thai Knees.
Let the debate begin.
