Dear DJ Khaled,

My name is Malcolm Jordan Batts. I am 18 years old and a graduating senior from Dulles High School. Since I could walk and talk I have enjoyed the sound of music, and once I was at age I learned how to play the keyboard. As I grew in age my passion for my music continued to grow also. From this progression in my love for music, I learned how to make beats and write musical lyrics. I have been making beats and writing music for more than 5 years. I have been accepted into Full Sail University where I want to achieve my Bachelor’s degree in Recording Arts. Being accepted into this university is honestly a dream come true because this is helping me grow closer to my passion of being a producer and song writer in the musical industry. Making music provides me with a sense of peace and happiness.

Making music has also been my outlet to a lot of pain that I have experienced in the last year and a half. In the last year and a half my world was turned upside down when my father was sentenced to 25 years for mortgage fraud. At the time of his conviction, I did not believe that there would be an opportunity for me to pursue my dreams because my mother had turned into a single parent with no way of providing for myself and my 2 brothers. My father was the sole provider for our family, with my father in prison and no form of income I believed that attending college was no longer an option for me. Then I realized that I should not let this obstacle stop me from achieving my dream that I have desired all of my life. I am not asking for anyone’s pity in this situation, but for an understanding, guidance, financial assistance, or possible internships if possible. I have come so close to achieving my dream that I really do not want to let anything else hinder me from stepping out at an opportunity that has been placed before me. I honestly believe that for anyone to be successful in life they have to possess passion and dedication for what they do. I possess that passion and dedication when it comes to music and I will work the extra mile to make my dream come true.

I hope from reading this letter you can see my passion for the love of music and how grateful I am for having the opportunity to attend Full Sail University. If you can provide me with any guidance, financial assistance, or possible internships I would be very grateful.
