In a few weeks, I will begin a one-year prison sentence for being in the possession of illegal firearms.  Where I come from, having a gun is just part of everyday life.  But, through this painful process of going to court and being convicted, I realized that I had to make a change.  I made some bad decisions.  I broke the law and will accept my punishment.  With deep reflection about where my life was headed, I have begun the process of redemption, and decided that before I go to prison, I want to speak to young people about responsibility as a lifestyle.  I hope that through my mistakes, young people can begin to learn, as I did, that we have to put our guns down and start to give our guns back.  It pains me inside to hear about so many of our people dying because of gun violence.  Just in the past weeks, a 13-year old boy was shot in the head in Harlem, a 17 and 19-year old were murdered in a double homicide in Queens and a 15 year old was chased, beaten, shot and burned in Chicago.

We will gather today in Harlem, with many mentors and supporters by my side, including Rev. Al Sharpton, Russell Simmons, Kevin Liles, Political Swagger, Mobile Regime and the C.H.A.N.G.E. Initiative to share the message that now is the time.  Now is the time to speak out against gun violence.  Now is the time to take responsibility for our actions.  Now is the time to make our communities safer.  Now is the time to support good legislation, like the S.N.U.G. bill in NY.  Now is the time to give back our guns.  Now is the time for me to lead by example.

We can and we will do better.

  • Im glad to see that T.I. has come to the realization that there is more to life than the streets. He's an inspiration to not only me, but to today's youth. The hood mentality is a crippling disease. It can and will hold you back from achieving your dreams and the life that God planned for you. It's time for us to step it up! Get a good education, and make a difference in the world. I'm tired of seeing ppl around me die over nothing. A color, a sac, a hood.. etc. T.I. hold ya head! Cant wait to see what u got planned for the future!

  • We all have a responsibility we always have to be aware of our actions and what they can cause, especially if people are influenced by you. If I chase women around than I teech my daughter that it's okay for her to be chased around. If we have a chance to change than to me it seems like we have a second chance. Take our brother T.I. for instance. He was charged with posession of a gun. This action costs him jail time, but this action gave him an oppertunity a chance if you will, a chance to change. But it is also our own responsibility to be taught. So I am thankfull to T.I. for this oppertunity to learn.

I hope he is doing well. And we pray for him and his family to stay strong.

  • Yo T.I. I know you not out yet but I still reply to your blog. To me it's like setting a plate out for someone who is not here but you still expect home. I'm thinking about writing a letter to jail just to let you know that all the way from the tiny Netherlands with as much habitants as the whole NYC we can't wait for you to get out of there.

    Be strong

  • Keep your head up T.I ..You inspire alot of people ...
  • jus think about tiny an ya kids to keep u going in there
  • I hate when people judge other people. 1st off, I'm a Christian and the only 1 who can judge is GOD. You can not criticize T.I. for carrying concealed weapons. You never know what someone has been through in their lifetime. His best friend was killed right beside him by a gun. That will make you want to protect yourself and your family at all costs. We do not live T.I's life and when can not judge him for wanting to protect his life. He has to have the want to live because he has a family to take care of. I know about this personally because my son's dad was stabbed and was 1 cm away from being paralyzed, and when he was laying on that ground all he could think about was me and my son and he somehow dialed my number. You never know what you may do when someone is trying to take your life. It makes you very paranoid. After that my son's dad is licensed to carry a gun, and he doesn't leave the house without it. The only difference between him and T.I. is that my son's dad doesn't have a felony so he can be licensed to carry a gun. When you come from a certain lifestyle and neighborhood, you can't just stop 1 day and act like you grew up in Beverly Hills. Especially when you have jealous people trying to take your life. So, T.I. I'm praying for you and your family. You and your family will make it through this. The haters will hate, just walk on by them through the gate when you get released and go on about your life.
