I'm sure a lot of people are aware of the latest HIV outbreak that has hit the porn industry. For the last week I just sat back & watched how everything was handled. I've read many articles from different perspectives & sources across the Internet. In my opinion, some of the "mainstream media" are painting this issue as though HIV originates from the porn community. Like Gucci Mane says - this is "Ridiculous"!
Like in most circumstances in life - people need to educate themselves before they pass along inaccurate information or falsehoods regarding the porn industry. I'm fully aware of the consequences that I face when I perform sex on camera without a condom. As should anyone..whether they are in the sex industry or not!

Though the recent HIV outbreak isn't totally resolved, I still feel empowered to at least make informed decisions about rather I work or not. I chose not to work until I get more information regarding the involved parties. Its a fact that condom use for any sexual act including oral sex is the best course of action if you chose to engage in a sexual act with someone. Abstinence from sex is still statistically the safest way to avoid STDs & HIV. AIM Healthcare suggest we get tested every 28 days. Some performers go more often that that. I try to go every 21 days and don't work with anyone whose test is going to expire within 7 days. Since this recent outbreak there has been a lot of talk about making all porn - condom only. I have mixed feelings about that policy and the reason why is because (within the industry) during so-called "condom only" scenes the oral sex is typically done without condoms. Again..this is "Ridiculous" for companies to insinuate that we are now..completely safe..its simply not true - STDs like chlamydia, gonorrhea & even HIV can be contracted in the throat according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

During this outbreak only 1 woman has turned up positive with HIV & 14 others were tested. Being in the industry you would think that I would know who the infected girl is - but I don't & it makes me very uncomfortable in so many ways. First I'm not able to ask anyone who I'm thinking about working with have you or anyone you worked with had sex with the positive girl. But I was told that AIM has the situation under control. So I decided to put myself under quarantine until they find the person who gave her HIV. Right now there are so many rumors going around that its hard to dissect the truth. Mainstream media is reporting 16 positive HIV cases in porn within the last 5 years & that is not true at ALL. AIM is open to anyone who wants to get tested. According to Aim, the positives that were reported to the Department of Health had nothing to do with porn performers and these person(s) had never performed in an adult film production. Lets talk about how many new cases of HIV that turn up in the USA on a whole?

The Porn industry is a community of people that are tested more often than most people walking the streets. This definitely does not protect us any more than anyone else; but it does provide a measure of awareness regarding my partners' STD medical status. Ensuring that I check my partners status before engaging in a sexual act is a Must in my book! I suggest that you do the same. Know your status! Get your partner tested regularly for all STDs..not just HIV.

Bottom line...everything in life has risk. Its best to thoroughly research any endeavor you choose - in order to understand the consequences you MAY face. This allows a person to make informed decisions based on the facts and not rumors or inaccurate information.

I don't even understand why people are still watching porn. It is the most degrading business a women can be in.
To some people these whores are stars, to me they are tricks like the ones we have behind the windows in Amsterdam. The only difference is that some of the women behind the windows or in brothels are forced to do the trick (and my heart goes out for them) and these porn whores are to lazy tp get a real job. - I absolutely agree that you reap what you sow! However, I humbly submit that most endeavors that we involve ourselves - are also subject to hazard (including sex).
  
  Marie and other "whores" Are 'Stars' - why you think they're called Pornstars? They attract the attention of thousands of people..good or bad...and they accomplish the end goal of monetizing that attention. Just because you and others (who feel the same as you) - have succumb to the rhetoric of sex = degradation doesn't mean that everyone else share in your opinion.
  So, what's a 'real' job? Who defined it for you? What makes you feel as though 'you' are the authority of what & how women should conduct themselves?
  
  As for not understanding why people still watch porn...that seems like a personal issue or maybe your incapacity to comprehend that the world has billions of people within its population - who may have different interest than you. Thus some people may enjoy porn others may not...thats how free will and opinions work.

- Well, we have a difference in oppinion. It must be the fact that I'm religios and that my religion prohibits such actions. But even for the normal logical brain of any human on earth, working in porn is wrong. I sugest you read the interviews from ex-pornstars. The things they have to say will make you throw up.
  
  Let's face it. If people want to be pornstars and others want to watch them, they should do so. It's their flaw in character. But the point of this blog is for people like me to react and I find porn disgusting.

- Imo I don't think it's a flaw in a persons character to make or watch porn that's between consenting adults. You have ex-pornstars that either liked or hated their job, it depends on the person and their situation.
  Some might think that porn is nothing but a visual form of "erotica" which by the way is in Songs of Songs by the way. Now that book of the bible has some what some might call "freaky" stuff. To each their own, if you don't like it don't watch it.....but don't try to put down the consenting adults that work in the business of porn or as prostitutes.

Sure, there are tons of women who are successful and 'doing their thing,' but the letter posted was in response to a news story that has been on major media networks. I just don't understand why this is such a surprise to folks. Sex is scary, it kills. Those in the porn industry at at the front of the line as it is their profession to have unprotected sex with strangers. Porn stars aren't immune or in any way exempt from the virus. Porn is a billion dollar industry, I sure hope the money is worth your life.

I agree with you Keith and especially with Marie.

Its a strange dichotomy how sex has such a negative connotation attached to it..yet its the same process by which we all come into existence. Yet..if I put the movie 'Friday the 13th' on the big screen & monetize the display of the various ways to take life 'out' of existence..I doubt I would get the same response from - mudbone.

Study this....why is it fine for a woman to portray getting robbed, raped or even murdered in a movie. Yet...its terrible for a woman to be portrayed in a fashion whereas she is engaging in an act that brings "life into existence?" Thats very backwards in my opinion.
