I Was A Case That Was Not Reported...

My name is Jessica White and I am known to the world as a model. I have been blessed with success beyond my wildest dreams, from walking the hottest runways to being the first African-American model with two beauty contracts to gracing the pages of Sports Illustrated seven times!  However, beyond all of the glitz and glamour (and hard work), there's more to me and my story that I feel compelled to share with you.

Humbly speaking, with the success I have had, I realized a much greater calling in my life.  I love my job, but I have come to a point where I need to do more.  So I started a charity called Angel Wings Foundation, whose mission is to help young girls and women who have been sexually abused, victims of domestic violence, or even abuse that one has caused on herself.  These issues are very important to me, not only because of what the statistics say, but of what I have experienced firsthand.  In the past seventeen years, only 31% of all rapes and sexual victimizations were reported to the police.

I was a case that was not reported.

I'm coming forth because I can identify with women and young girls who have been abused, discouraged or bound by fear.   Because of my silence, I put myself through an unnecessary struggle dealing with depression, rage, paranoia and drug addiction…all before the age of 21.  God gave me a second chance at life and now I'm giving back.  I hope my words and actions can uplift and empower fellow girls and women to speak up and speak out about the horrible epidemic in our nation and our world.

Let's come together and glorify the things that could have destroyed you!

God Bless,

Jessica

I'm sorry to hear that that happened to you I never knew only 31% of the time it's reported that's amazing 69% of the time it's not reported!I think it's good that you are trying to help out other young girls and women who have also had that terrible experience happen to them
  • Amazing grace how sweet the sound that save the rest like me I once was lost but now I'm found was blind but now I see....Jessica I known u since you was a little girl, your mom dad(rip) sisters...... I have always been proud of your accomplishments every since u was called for ur 1st photo shoot I have been praying for you. When ur mother decided to put u into modeling for discipline the praying began bc I know of case and read plenty of cases where people tend to take advantage of young gir asnd women especially in this business. Everytime I read about who u are dating I ask God to look over you and hopefully your not forced into all the relationships..
Girl you know your calling so go for it!!! Congradulations on your success God bless you! Love you Jess.

  • Russell, listen up. Jessica White is exactly the type of women your site should be promoting, not Amber Rose. You talk a good game about uplifting and empowering our community, so I'd like to see you follow up this post with a real commitment by you and globalgrind.com to her foundation and efforts...

    Sincerely,
    PCIV
  • See now these are the type of womaen that can make a difference in this world taking there own experience and sharing it with others to help them. This woman is what you call one of GODS ANGELS. Its like she found her purpose i have nothing but respect for you and what you are doing.
  • I think it's wonderful that you have found the strength to be strength to someone else. There are so many issues we hide because of embarassment or fear; when we hide these things and act out trying to deaden the pain, we end up self destructing. BRAVO. It's important that we tell the stories, bring the darkness to light, and continue to shine.
  • That is so great of you to do that. Everyone always wonders why girls never report what happened. I reported mine and a month later they dropped charges and the army covered it up. I still freak out about it and get depressd but I stopped seeing a therapist because I just don't think they really understand. Anyways it is always good when someone really wants to help.
  • It is very touching and very nice of you to do that. I am with you and i wish you all the best.
    You are so beautiful!
  • checking out twitter and found You.. I have had experiences in my childhood (also.) I can see in Reflection..of years gone by, and it saddens my Heart, how NOT dealing with abuse at the time it occurred,(my not telling my parents,) who loved me. has been Baggage through out my life...NOW I KNOW>>>HA! I have, always, helped whoever I can, and God has Blessed me, with strangers,,somehow..meeting me, and needed Exactly the Support/and my honesty, and guidance. Sometimes, it take a LOT Longer to (Hear) ones own self, then helping someone else...GOD uses, even us Cracked Vesseles! Best Wishes on All you do..Love and sister in Christ....OH and Peace OUT :)
  • amazingly beautiful. glad you are taking a stand for something in life. Stand for something or fall for anything. I mgith need to re-evaluate that phrase in laides i choose to deal with
  • It's about time Russell put a positive, beautiful black woman, with a meaningful message on here to blog! God bless you for giving to those who have experienced such injustice. We need to know that we are not alone. Thank you much!
  • I've heard so many disturbing molestation stories over the years that I am beginning to believe that it is uncommon that a woman hasn't been sexually assaulted before reaching adulthood or at the least, someone has attempted to sexually assault them. It is so common that girls are targeted by boys and even adult men that I have began to appreciate some of the customs of Muslim cultures that provide some degree a separation between the sexes. As a man, I can honestly say that there is a time in a male's development where he is almost completely ruled by his instincts and is capable of almost anything. Some men never mature past this point and take this attitude into adulthood. I have a daughter and I think about the ever present threats that exist around her when ever she is not by my side. It's frightening. I do believe that Jessica's story is one that needs to be told. We need to hear this story from everyone who has or is experiencing it as often as it happens so that we can get real about the predatory environment in which we live.

Many of us live in a world that exists only in our minds - an idealized reality where we see most people a good and bad acts rare. In the real world most people have bad thoughts, have an appetite for bad things and engage in bad acts. Until we face the truth of our condition, we can never repair and advanced towards actually becoming that idealized vision of ourselves.

I want to say that it doesn't surprise me that yet another beautiful woman has revealed experiencing this ugly thing because that would mean that I am well grounded in reality but I am surprised. I would have never thought that a woman so seemingly strong and as powerfully beautiful as Jessica could have been a victim. I guess I had placed her into a place in my mind where she was just "all-good". I am so appreciative of her telling of her story. This is helping me to keep my feet on the ground.
