Hello Everyone!

So today I woke up thinking about Dan Choi. I know a lot of you probably don't know who he is, so I just wanted to write a little blog to keep you all updated on things! Dan Choi  is considered a hero to many of us in the human rights movement.  Why? Not just because he went to West Point, or served a tour in Iraq, but because he is a BRAVE man who truly stands up for what he believes in, and as you all know by now, I highly admire people who like to break barriers and speak their minds!

On national television he PROUDLY told the world that he was a GAY soldier. *Standing Ovation*  But then soon after he announced that he was GAY,  the army IMMEDIATELY gave him the boot! Now keep in mind, this is a man who proudly enlisted himself in the army, possibly endangering his own life, just so that he could help protect our country and be a PROUD SOLDIER TO PROTECT AND SERVE THE AMERICAN PEOPLE! For him to get the boot just because of what gender he chooses to LOVE is absolutely RIDICULOUS to me! HORRID!  Unfortunately, he isn't the first to be discriminated against, and unless President Obama acts fast, and keeps his campaign promise to repeal the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell Policy" in the military, he will not be the last!

Being an openly bisexual woman myself and having a lot of close gay friends, I have always HATED that policy, which pretty much tells people that in order to serve our country, you have to live in secret.  You can't openly embrace the person you love or tell others about them.  What kind of message does that send? Well, clearly its one of shame. Very shameful and quite sad.

Think about it,  this outmoded policy sends a horrible message to young people, straight or gay, that the military is trying to recruit. It tells them that the military is an intolerant place that does not value  diversity, fairness, and equality. More than 12,500 gay and lesbian soldiers have been discharged since "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" began in 1993. The soldiers were brave enough to lay their lives on the  line to protect the country they love, and for all of us here in America, but they were not good enough live openly and proudly as they are.  The message that this sends, is that the military sees no problem with discrimination- and how is that "American" exactly? This country is supposed to be all about "EQUAL RIGHTS FOR ALL" So they should honor that commandment!  We have come a long way, fighting for equal rights so why stop now?

So now I am looking to our superhero President to do what is right! President Obama says that he will REPEAL the DADT policy, but so far, we don't have a date as of yet.....all we have is just a campaign promise that really gave us all hope during that time that a change was coming!  We shall all be free!  I for one, trust the words of our President. I trust that he will continue to fight for our rights from within the White House walls just like he promised he would. As a matter of fact, I would like to applaud him for extending partner benefits to federal Gay employees, calling on Congress to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act, meeting with Mathew Shephard's mom(the same Lady who turned away Perez Hilton for his recent anti-gay slur) about hate crimes, and repealing the HIV travelers ban...so yes, I will give Obama credit where it is due! Our guy, is on the move and I love him for it.

However, we still need a date Mr. Obama. When will you give us that date to repeal the DADT Policy and continue be the Superhero that you can be! We are here, we are queer, and its about time that the military gets used to it!!!  Discrimination is so 2000 and Late! The time is NOW!!!!!! YES WE CAN, BUT ONLY IF YOU CAN! I hope you get a chance to read this Mr. President! I know you have it in you to be one of the greatest Presidents our time!

Yours Truly,
Ms. Tila Nguyen

  • I Think That This Is A Great Letter

    Think About The Letter

NOT The Person Who Wrote It

    Just For A Momentt

What Iff Somone Else Wrote It

It WOuld Make A HUGEE Difference

    I Can Bet You That
  • I think that each person has their own opinion that is righteous to them and I believe any person whether it be straight or gay should be able to serve.

    www.sairspeaceofmind.blogspot.com
  • He served his country. It doesnt matter what he is (gay, bi. trisexsual) i dont give a f*ck. He protected americans and thats all it matter.
  • i dont hate gay people and im not judging its just that its not write if it was meant to be it would have been adam and adam and it was adam and eve that was put on this earth
    • once you die and talk to God, you can come back and tell us all how wrong we are. but until than keep your oppions to yourself, because you have no f*cking clue how god feels.
    • don't bring mythical beings in to the mix and not one that's only been around for over 2000 years because i can think of many others that were happy for men to lie with men. and if any one find get upset by these words then you no what you can do stop using GOD as a reason to hate because its that kind of thinking that sent a group of guys with bombs to my city less then half a mile away in a street were members of my family were working 3 years ago today, and if you think back people with the same view did something similar in the u.s a few years back too. if we lean any thing from those two events if any thing it is that we shouldn't hate for God only love for him....... i cant believe i just said that
  • Anyone who brought up the fact that being gay is a "sin" sounds stupid...just to let you know...pre-marital sex is a sin...tattoos are a sin..I mean...r u serious...shut up...why do u care who loves who...worry about who u love and who loves u...mind ur damn business and let us gay/straight/bi/trans...etc...live ourlives....spend more time worrying about child molestors...etc...all the time everyone spends hating a group of people that just want equal marriage rights could be better spent on ending this war and bringing our troops home safely...UGH...
    • hopefully god forgives u for the sin that u have done and i will pray that he does
  • ok. well the president can't just change something on his own. it's not all his decision. the ppl in congress also have to agree. but i honestly think the DADT policy is a good one. think about it. if someone doesn't ask about ur sexuality, that means they don't care to know. just coming out and telling them without them asking could be quite disturbing especially to a person that is straight. i have nothing against gays at all. i just think that the whole situation is out of control. being gay is a sin... so u honestly want the president to support a sin? come on... i know that ppl sin everyday and will continue to sin. there is nothing that will ever stop ppl from sinning but it is absolutely ridiculous to support one as if it is the right thing to do.
    • you sound like such an ill informed closed minded individual that it makes me sick to read your comment. the dont ask dont tell policy is not just simply a gay american going up to their officer and saying "hey guess what? im gay." it is also, that if they try to hide it, and someone finds out, they will be kicked out of the military. they have to live in secret because our close minded world, namely people like you, cant deal with the fact that not everyone is like them. the bottom line is that people have rights, all people, and one of them SHOULD be that they can live comfortably with themselves and not worry about stupid rules like these. im sorry that you feel that homosexuality is a sin, but quite frankly thats just you having your head shoved so far up your ass that its fogging up your judgement. and plus, even if to you it is a sin, it does not mean that people who "sin" cannot be in the military.
    • Sluts have to keep their practices in the army on the low too. So what? Should they have a special policy as well?
  • Tilia is acting like just because the Pres. wants something done that it will be done. That policy has been aroundd forever and I hope that it gets changed to but it wont happen because Obama wants it to happen- Beleive in God - Joe Wrong
    • why shouldnt it be done because a lot of americans feel it should be and the president wants it to be?

those are both very legitement reasons for change to be made it my oppion.
    • Alot of Americans??? Do you have those numbers?
    • do you have the numbers of the people who dont want it to change?
    • I didn't make a statment, I asked a question. Why don't you just answer the question?
  • Most of the responses to this blog are all the same and that is support for Gay's in the Military. Support is one thing and the Military is another! First let me advise you of my view on this issue. I DO support Gay's in the Military BUT, they CAN'T be open in the Military period!

Just vision for a second what it would look like to have a flaming gay man in a Marine Uniform in his dress blues.

Not Good! The vision of a strong military would be blurred by this. I could go on forever about this issue but this isnt my blog it's just a response to a post. But just think about that picture for a moment is this what we want "The Few The Proud" to represent?
    • i hope you realize how idiotic you really sound when you say that.

it would not matter if a man was gay and was open about it or gay and hid it in the military.

either way he is serving his country and risking his lifes for other.

just because you have some stupid stereotypes in your head doesnt mean anything.
  • I am bisexual and in the AF. I do not believe that the men and women of our armed forces should serve openly because I believe that it could cause problems. I believe that it should be a don't ask situation but I believe that if it is found out that an individual is homosexual, they should not be kicked out. There are soooo many of us living this lie. A little breathing air would be good but full out "I'm gay, I'm a lesbian'...that's not good for safety purposes. It could cause more problems than we need. Keep it like it is, just don't kick us out if it is found out that we are gay.
  • i think if your gay and proud to admit it then wtf should anyone care if you wanna be brave and fight for this country,oh wait that's right people are afraid that the people who love the same gender are going to turn our men and women into a gay fighting team.why should it really matter if your gay or not?i am one of many people who will embrace someone who openly admits to how they live and don't really care.i am in Wisconsin watching this war on terrorism when the war was started for the f*cking oil and to make sure the bush family line was richer then them dirty people are now,we went in to find osama bin ladden we found Saddam Hussein wtf.Let anyone who is willing to go and risk there life thats there choice in life not yours or the military's why disgrace them they are the best fighters we have in america let them do what they want and go fight for this f*cked up country,no one else wants to do it why should they be stopped for it too???this place we call land of the free is it or was that another lie told to everyone the natives mainly but everyone in all.....
    • Are you kidding me, as far as military goes I agree, what does it matter if your gay or not. It doesn't ,and because it doesn't matter you shouldn't ask or shouldn't tell, because it has absolutely NOTHING to do with the military. Thats why you just keep that sh*t to yourself(Period)
    • the only problem with that idiotic statement is that in order to follow that policy you must keep who you are away from everyone. even if you dont tell anyone in the military that you are gay, and they find out you still get kicked out. which means hiding it from everyone. who really wants to live like that? would you want to hide the fact that you like girls, guys, whatever? no. (PERIOD)
    • i completely agree with what you are stating about who really cares if someone is gay or not. the bottom line is that they are laying down their life for their country, and for that we should show them respect no matter what gender they choose to love.
  • ONE'S SEXUAL PREFERENCE SHOULD NOT DETERMINE THEIR ABILITY TO BE A SOLDIER, I THINK THAT IS AN INJUSTICE WHETHER I BELIEVE IN HOMOSEXUALITY OR NOT.
  • We become good friends on the FREE & HOT dating site ………K i s s C o u g a r.COM……... he said I am sexy,slim and attractive.He even want to propose to me,what a miricle.....
  • With this and your p.Hilton conflict going on, one would think you lay low for a few days but noooooo. YES Gay's should have the same rights as everyone else and that includes the armed forces but all of the civilized world is falling to sh*t and this is the fight you want to take up. Is it just me or is Tila full of hot air, "oh look a media argument time for me to put my $1.00 in." Why not do something helpful with your undeserved fame, what about campaigning to cut the greenhouse gasses from the U.S.A. or cutting the use of fossil fuels in favor of renewable power. No instead you put all your power into telling the world how much of a wanker P.Hilton is, (like we needed you to tell us he is a d*ckhead)and how some dude got kick out of the army for being GAY(but to my knowledge this still has not been proven as the only reason. The edited pic you have are to be blunt the most sickening and blatant publicity stunt i have ever seen and should be removed just out of respect for all the good solders that were killed.

And in the future if you are going to write to the leader of you country make it about something that will help others not just you profile. Don't ask, Don't Tell Policy.
    • trevor h, i understand why you feel that she is taking up an unimportant issue. because there is a lot of other more important things going on in the world. however, if tila feels strongly about this and wants to use her "undeserved fame" as a way of getting it out there, why the hell shouldnt she? shes a women with an oppion and im glad shes stating it. yes there are many other terrible things going on, but this is one of them. its not only in the military but everywhere and shes speaking out against it. if you dont agree dont read it.
    • Hi Lilly you are right in every way and there is little i can say in way of reproach but it not something she feels strongly about if it was she would not have such a lose and almost unresearched letter, this in every way feels to me to be just publicity. I chose to read her letter because i hoped it was something more then it was. Gay rights should be an issue we talk about but as part of a hole regarding every one not just over the 1% of the globe we live on. In this world we kill over oil, land and who has what gun and whose is bigger, I HAVE PROTESTED for gay right as well as for basic Human rights for those who don't, and trust me there is more pain and suffering in the world that CAN be stopped by the government's we live under if people STOP pissing about over petty things and come together and see the bigger picture. like i said at the top of this body of text if she dose feel so strongly about this issue and she is going to send a letter to your commander and chef it should have been terse and cogent not just hearsay and conjecture. I hope you or any one who reads this feel i in any way feel that i am some knuckle dragging neanderthal as this is not my intention.
  • you guys are missing the point. its not about the fact that people can not show who they truely are, which is unfair in intself, or the fact that they knew what they were getting themselves into, which is to serve their country and hide who they really are. the point is, all people should be treated equally, and if someone is willing to sacrafice their LIFE for their country and the people in it the least we can do is show them respect in return and discriminating them because they love people as the same gender as themselves is not showing them respect at all. It should not matter what their sexual orientation is the fact that they are willing to do such a selfless act as joining the military is all that counts and to make them hide who they are just to do that selfless act is just terrible and unjust.
