U.S. payrolls tumbled by an unexpectedly large amount last month on widespread declines across manufacturing, construction and professional services, a grim reminder that the path to economic recovery will be bumpy.

The unemployment rate, meanwhile, continued to creep toward double digits, rising to its highest level in over 25 years.

Global Grind would like to hear from you.  If you are unemployed, please let us know your story and if you have any thoughts about how America can create more jobs, tell us that too.  We are working on a project and need your input...

  • I have been unemployed since Jan. 09, everything was fine and one day 30 minutes before the office closed they told me to pack and that will be my last day, i was sad and crying all the way home on the train (i thought it was messed up because I have kids to feed) and since then i have been looking and been on several interviews but to my luck everyone has been telling me that I'm over qualified. I had saved a bit of money but unfortunately that money was for my kids to go to college when they got older. We have been living off of unemployment and sometimes I am forced to take money out of their college money to make rent or buy them decent food. Its sad that we have to go through this and some people are under worst conditions. I am so stressed about how are we going to make it through the next day , its gotten so bad that I sleep about 2 hours per day. I am ready and willing to work if someone can give me an opportunity, it's so bad that not even f*cking walmart will take me, even with me saying that I am ok to work for 8.50 a Hr. & to make matters worse I have resorted to other ways of trying to make money and I know if i get caught it will be over since i used my 3 strikes already (hustling ain't a joke, but when you got kids crying saying they hungry you got to do what ever to make sure we got electricity and food on the table even if is only rice) SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!! I hope Global grind really reads ppls comments.....
  • I was laid off last year and it was the best thing that ever happened to me. Most of us have been pre-conditioned into thinking that we HAVE to work for someone else. I can guarantee the majority of people who are unemployed hated their jobs. They went to work because it was a steady paycheck and nothing more.

I want everyone to understand that the only way to accomplish any level of wealth is to BE YOUR OWN BOSS AND to have MULTIPLE STREAMS OF INCOME. Remember, more millionaires were created during the great depression than any other time. And even more millionaires are being made today in 2009.

Don't hold on to the old beliefs of working to death at a job that you hate in order to barely make it. A JOB stands for Just Over Broke. Take control of your life!

  • I recently lost my job with a major health insurance company HBCBS NJ they laid off 170 people and eliminated another 60. This is first time in years i have been unemployed. It took 5 weeks for me too get an unemployment check and when it finally came they sent it too the wrong direct deposit. This is hard i live in New Jersey and the cost of living is not cheap at all. Exspcially with three childen one is away at school. This economy has impacted so many and there are no jobs out there. My fear is i am going to have to take a serious pay cut. I have too pay 1550.00 in rent, i have no car thank god, i have food, utilities, as much as i need a car i can't afford it my children are almost going without things they need because i have too pay rent. I still as of to date have neot received a check. It's a struggle everyday.
  • As a black business owner, I have lost all of my business in the span of a year!! If I had not saved money I would have lost everything. With my savings dwindling very quickly due to mortgages and so forth. I am trying very hard to rebuild my business, this time without franchising. I have learned my trade and took this opportunity to branch out on my own, and build a bigger more successful business than I had before. I encourage other in distress to try building your own business, so that we can employ others! Just some food for thought.
  • i've been out of work since april.I'm just barely getting by. I'm so fortunate not to have a car note but i don't reap the benefits of riding fly. But this is the part I don't get. I thought Obama said that the money would go from the bottom up this time .Then why are waiting forit to trickle down still. 70 billion here. 70 billion there.Correct me if i'm wrong but are ther 70 billion us citizens? The gov"t treats us like kids. Why they just put 50 to 80 thousand in each household. What would happen? ppl would catch up there mortgages. right. I know the banks would like that.Maybe they might buy a car. I know i need one that run on bio-fuel.chrysler and ford would like that. Consumer spending would be at all-time high. So the market would go up.ppl would pay their credit cards off. So no more credit crunch. And some might invest in a business or stock. Creating jobs and revenue. How about that? But instead i'm on my way to the unemployment office in search money for reeducation for green job tomorrow. A photovoltaic claas that last one week and cost 1000.oo dollars. Now this money is supposed to be there for us too. Well i will see. wish me luck. justicesoon
  • The crazy thing is, the jobs could easily be there. Banks loan the money we gave them to companies to use for payroll. Companies re-hire all the ppl they let go. People got jobs so they can start spending money again. Companies make money. Companies re-pay payroll loans, which is normal-most companies borrow for short term like payroll. Banks make money and continue to loan. The unemployment rate drops, the dollar gets stronger, the stock market goes up. I just don't get it-it's not a complicated thing. Banks & other companies have already written off most of bad mortgages-they have plenty of money thanks to us (gov't TARP). And if they start now, those who haven't gone into foreclosure might not have to. Somebody has to start the ball rolling! Wow..& I didn't even finish collete, lol
  • Unemployment inspired me to move into entrepreneurship which hasn't been easy. Over the years, I've supplemented my income with the only other work opportunities that came my way. Life hasn't been easy for many long before this current "recession".
  • What's up ? I have been unemployed since october of 2008 and I live in hollis , queens , since that time I have been going extremly hard looking to be gainfully employed with no success ! I have been through the bottom corners looking for employment with no luck ! I have seen lines run two city blocks for a job and damn near around citi field for a job fair ! This has lead me to college just so I can continue my grind ! But damn when will the jobs come back ?????
  • I am an unemployed college graduate. Back in 2007 I left my job with a promise of a new one closer to my home within the non-profit Public Relations sector, which is my passion. Unfortunately, the company began experiencing severe financially problems and was unable to fulfill its commitment to hiring me. I've been unemployed since then. Luckily, my degree allows me to subsitute teach and I've been able to network and earn a few freelance gigs. However, I've had to move out of my apartment and have not been able to get back on my feet YET...
  • Hi,

Government grants should fund the destruction of all public housing complex's and give contracts to build low income housing for all black and hispanics in this country. Also start rebuilding and upgrading minority schools to be technologically advanced to compete in the 21st century. The problem is that the economic sector has been taylored to white people for 400 years and has finally took its toll and their still trying to ride the same economic principles to destruction. Start building boards to oversee the injustice system also and not comprised of all white people!

  • i have been laid off since sept.08. when gas went up and was just out of controll continental airlines which i working for laid off.
  • I have been unemployed since April 2009 due to company bankruptcies. I tried for unemployment, but the owner never paid the unemployment compensation. I have little small jobs that last for a couple of days, but nothing serious. I have been to numerous interviews and they all have stated your resume and interviews are great. I no call backs to say if I was heard or not. Its the hardest thing I have been going through and the unemployment rate in South Florida specifically is crazy.
