**Globalgrind.com Exclusive**     A lot of people talking about what I twittered the other night…so I want to address it, now that I have had some time to do some thinking.  At 18 years, having grown up in the Mississippi Delta, I never thought my life would take me to where I am now.  All I wanted to do was make music.  All I thought I loved was music.  I would die for that motherfuckin music.  But, once I got a record deal and all these people around me trying to tell me who to be, what to do and how to do it, I realized that I wasn’t making music any more for the love.  I got into this weird place where I began making music for the money.  And I was making a lot of money…more money than I could ever imagine.  And with that money, of course, I could buy a lot of things…but to be honest, you can only drive that brand new phantom around the corner oh so many times… and when you are done driving, it really don’t mean sh*t.  I thought money was gonna bring me happiness.  And that is the farthest thing from the truth.  Money f*cks you up.

I know I might sound crazy, because a lot of you who are reading are probably like, I wish I had this ni**a’s money.  But, the truth is that money got me twisted.  All I want to do is go back to making music for the love of it.  The accolades and the awards are for everyone else.  The music is for me.  The music is my happiness.  So, of course I am struggling in my mind right now…cause I wanna get back to place where I woke up, thinking about what I was gonna write that day.  Where I went to sleep ready to dream about what I was gonna write the next day.

I know my fans.  And I know they will understand this.  This ain’t got nothing to do with y’all. Oh yeah... sorry to all my white peeps out there. I'm not racist :)   But I guess time will heal all wounds…

  • shout out to sb for that ...
  • To be 18 and to make this realization is respectable, yo. It's good to know that some "mainstream" artists are out there and being true to their music and enjoying what they do for the love of it and not for the profit.
  • Shout out to Soulja Boy one time gotta show love to this post, you know I fucks with you soulja and only a chosen few out of a world of billions can relate. So when we say things like that a lot of people don't understand where we're coming from and they wish they was in the position we're in. They wish they had the money, the cars, the record deal...but they don't understand that it's not about the money it's about people taking the love and the passion away from what you love to do.

For some of us the same reason why we came in the first place is the same reason why we leave...between all the politics, bullsh*t and ridiculous egos it's easy to lose motivation and lose sight of who you are and why you came and what your reason for still being here is.

But at the end of the day for me, as long as I remeber why I started it and where I came from...I'll never forget why I'm here and where I'm going.

It's easy to find reasons to lose motivation and leave the game, it's much harder to stay and challenge everything they set up for you to fail.

    Keep ya head up young-

  • Even though I wish SB could come up with better lyrics, I have to applaud him for being honest about what is wrong with the music industry. The industry can make you hate music, and what artist should hate their art? Music is so gimmicky now-a-days, artists aren't challenged to come up with good product. If they want to veer from a marketable angle, their handlers are afraid to fall below their bottom line.

We are how many years deep in rap Black people and haven't developed a new style of music yet. Why? 'Cause the suits think they can create superstars. SMH
  • To me it starts with the record labels. They push whatever is making money. They don't care how authentic an artist is. The just want to authenticly make money. These executives are controling the industry from behind a desk. Half of these dudes have never killed an ant, but all of them are Gambino and Gotti. The desire to have money also a society thing. You are judge by how much money you have. Some people will get on their knees for it. Some people will let go of their values for it. There will always be artist not being themselves. It's a business and if you can make more money not being yourself that is what people will do.
  • That what's uo Soulja, keep you head up.
  • Im glad soulja boy(dre) is telling this side of things. For the love of money is the root to all evil! Happiness is key! When rappers first began, you can here the hunger in their voice. As fans we love their music and then once they reach 50 cent level they fall off. Get Rich or Die Trying was a classic...he never made another album like it!
  • It took some days but he got it together. Good for you Soulja Boy. I guess he turned his swagg back on, took a look in mirror and said Wassup, Yeahhhhh I'm makin MUSIC I LOVE OHHHHHHHH!!!! lol
  • i always loved you and i will. i'm your fan no matter what :)
  • very mature kidd!!
  • Deep blog bro! Sounds like its time to start giving back. When your cup is full, it's time to pour it out. There is always more happiness in giving that receiving! Peace. Love. Stinky Cakes!!
  • I can't believe he's already come to this conclusion at 18. Good for him. I hope he can stick to his guns and find a way to make the music he wants without selling out. Not a fan but I've got a little more respect for him now.
  • Hey kid i feel you on that sh*t right there- and what you need to do is talk to unlce russ and let him guide you on your future plans, because russ always make dollars and sense- so holla at him and get your plan back into action...
