Steve McNair is just another victim of American gun culture. McNair, dead by gun in America, came out of Mount Olive, Miss., whose population still came up short of 1,000 when McNair made it to the Super Bowl with the Tennessee Titans in January 2000.

According to the The Tennessean newspaper, McNair had a permit to carry a handgun. The weapon found next to the bodies was a semiautomatic.

There were so many wonderful statistics attached to McNair's career, the most important being the one Super Bowl, the four Pro Bowls to which he was selected, all the games he won. But the last was the only one that mattered. He is the 36th homicide victim in Nashville this year. That is down from 41 at the same time last year.

Only in a country of gun lovers is that considered progress.. --------------------------------------------------------------------------

Why is this gun culture allowed to flourish?

  • I was making the same argument to my co-workers earlier today. I've traveled to countries that don't permit citizens to carry guns and there were only 2 murders in a city of 18 million people for the entire year... This gun was purchased legally... Yes the majority of murders come from illegal gun purchases, but how many lives could be saved if citizens didn't have legal access. Only love can conquer hate... NOT GUNS!
    • You can't be serious...
  • lol, who writes this misinformed drivel..way to be an irrelevant website...hah
  • He was a victim of America's Infidelity culture.
  • It is sad that guns are needed for protection and resolution. The world would be a safer place if we used old school ways to resolve battles such as boxing. Imagine countries not having to use their military. Just throw the two conflicting parties in a ring. The victor wins the battle less people get hurt. It is unrealistic but we can only imagine.
  • Whoever wrote this article should look at the statistics between intimate violence using guns and other weapons before writing this crap. The "gun culture" has had less of an impact on this situation than it would have 20 years ago. Get your stuff together and check the study from the Department of Justice:

    • agree with cmyst82. An almost non existent percentage of people that are actually licensed to carry a gun commit malice crimes against others. It's the guns in the streets that are obtained ILLEGALLY that is the issue. Everyone that's against gun's wants them out of everyones hands except for law enforcement. Guess what, you take guns away from citizens that are licensed to carry, they are still going to be in the streets. Gun's in the streets is something that will always be there, no one can take that away with laws. They obtain them illegally to avoid the current system, therefore nothing will change.
