Below are the prepared remarks for President Obama's back to school speech, as released on the White House website.

I know that for many of you, today is the first day of school. And for those of you in kindergarten, or starting middle or high school, it's your first day in a new school, so it's understandable if you're a little nervous. I imagine there are some seniors out there who are feeling pretty good right now, with just one more year to go. And no matter what grade you're in, some of you are probably wishing it were still summer, and you could've stayed in bed just a little longer this morning.

I know that feeling. When I was young, my family lived in Indonesia for a few years, and my mother didn't have the money to send me where all the American kids went to school. So she decided to teach me extra lessons herself, Monday through Friday - at 4:30 in the morning. Now I wasn't too happy about getting up that early. A lot of times, I'd fall asleep right there at the kitchen table. But whenever I'd complain, my mother would just give me one of those looks and say, "This is no picnic for me either, buster."

  • I don't have kids, but if i did, off course i would let them listen to the president of the United States. Effective communication involves listening skills. Being able to communicate effectively with everyone goes a long way in life. For the most part of your life, it can lead you to good things in life. As there are many people out there who have great words of comfort, wisdom, encouragement and or just something positive to say. I love those people. The ability to listen also informs you of important and not so important updates. Things you want/need to know, and things you don't want/need to know.
Taking the time to listen to others, such as President Barack Obama, may do you good in the long run.
There maybe something he says in his speech that may have a huge impact on your life, maybe not now, perhaps later in your life. Overall, he is showing how much he cares about everyone by taking the time in lending his hand, so to speak, through his positive words he says in his speech.
  • Is everyone here insane........look up obabma indoctrination videos......We're turning it into a race thing. Where if you say something against obama you're racist...or if you have an opposing view you're crazy.....is everyone here brainwashed....get your information from other places than this site or the damn news...WAKE UP
  • i don't know him but from what i have learned so far he seem like he could be EDUCATIONAL.
  • I saw on the news today where this lady is opposed to letting her students watch the speech because she's afraid he will try to impose his agenda about the health care reform on them. If thats not the most ignorant crap i've ever heard in my life!!! People are trying to find any and every excuse to bring our President down... putting their own intelligence on the line.
    • I agree with you. WHY would he impose the healthcare reform on them. They cannot vote nor do they (children) really care for the most part. In the past when other presidents spoke it was not a problem so why does everything he attempts have to be combed through and approved? This is just outrageous in my opinion. No one has ever had to give signed permission to watch the President. What is this 1920?
  • The behavior that has been exhibited from conservatives is just unreal. They have shown themselves to be the equivalent of kindergarden children. They spread hatred like california wildfires, and are the cancer of this country. People can say what they want about President Obama, but I give him an A+ just for standing through this massive assault that he has endured ever since the primaries.
  • It really doesn't matter what he says in the speech,Republicans are going to find fault with it.I really wish he would just tell them (republicans)to either roll with him or get rolled over, after all he is the President!!!!!!
  • WOW!!!!!! He's telling kids 2 do better in school, don't give up, don't let any obstacle stand in your way, be determined, and try your best at everything you do and parents and other politicians are against it. what!!!! Do you want your kids working at McDonald or taco bell for the rest of there life. You don't want your kids to be inspired. You guys need to really listen to the speech!!!!
  • I think its a good speech, for its purpose. A little dry for the age groups that it was intended for, but the message is clear. Rest assured, they'll be people picking this speech apart piece by piece...

If anything, the issue falls on the last line where he says "God Bless America." Athiests will throw a fit!
