Be Like Kanye And STOP THE SHOW!

So, yesterday @unclerush aka “The Godfather of Hip-Hop” aka Russell Simmons went on what some would call a “twitter rant.”  For hours, my man, was tweeting and tweeting away, constantly asking his followers to re-tweet his rant.  And his rant was simple:

RT @UncleRUSH: IF you care about the poor, the elderly, the sick, the uninsured ...RT this: HEALTH CARE NOW!!!!!!!!!!

And as read more and more of his tweets, I kept asking myself – where are we, the young people, in this discussion?  Why is a 50-something year old, hip-hop mogul so passionate about this, and we seem to not really give a flying duck?  And what keeps going through my mind, is that if we allow for the politicians (Democrats AND Republicans) to continue to call each other names and liars – and allow for the fringe groups to march on Washington and compare our President to Adolf Hitler – a man that killed 13 million people, including six million Jews – if we keep allowing this to happen, and don’t jump on stage like Kanye and STOP THE SHOW!  And grab the mic from the hands of those that want to make our future a political battle –  if we don’t STOP THE SHOW!!  (Just put down the Henny bottle first & don’t disrespect the 17 year old) – then put the lights on make an announcement that HEALTHCARE FOR ALL should have won and that the Glenn Beck rally was really whack… then (before you get kicked out the show) look at each other in the eyes, and ask each other one simple question.

Are we going to take control of our own future?

For those that know me, you already know that I’m about constructive dialog and win-win outcomes.   I believe strongly that every one in this country deserves access to healthcare.  I know there are different ways to get there, and I am open to all of them, as long as we all come into this discussion with compassion, love and empathy for all people, including the sick and the poor.   I have healthcare – and I have good healthcare – so this isn’t about me.  This is about us.  A generation.  A powerful generation that I believe in more than anything. Cause’ if we don’t stand up now, we can forget about cleaning our environment, fixing our broken education system, bringing equal rights to all people and so many other changes that we, as a generation, believe in and dream about.

So, I ask you to not only support our President, but challenge our President – call your Senators and tell them what YOU want – not what a bunch of politicians THINK you want – show up at the town hall meetings and ask the older people to stop with all their games – this isn’t about posters, or slogans, or rich, tv personalities/comedians – this is about us…our health…our  future…our world.  BE LIKE KANYE AND STOP THE SHOW!

  • How much more can be said about what Kayne did, he spoke his mind at the wrong time, I love Taylor Swift, But Kyne just still have lessons to learn on being to blunt at the wrong times, and the may mean he has to get spanked and but in time out afterwards.
    • OTOH Kanye may have gotten his share of corporeal punishment & time-outs at home and/or at school, like most kids who were raised in modern society, which is where he (and others with influence) first got the idea that it's acceptable to use "power" over another if you think you're in the right.*

Who knows, but I couldn't help but wonder why he seemed clueless about the "Video of the Year" award, since Beyonce's dad obviously knew it was coming up in time to make arrangements to bring Taylor back on stage before the presentation was made. Kudos to the Knowles for their graciousness and style.

Thanks to uncleRUSH for sharing your blog, Michael -- here's to healthier food for thought! :o)

  • I think your really smart in using Kanye as an example, minus the situation of how he did it but YOUR RIGHT, WHAT HE DID WAS MONUMENTAL IN STANDING UP FOR WHAT YOU BELIEVE BUT HIS WAS OUT OF CONTEXT AND WRONG BUT YEAH, I'M 20 YEARS OLD WITH NO DAMN HEALTH CARE!!! WE NEED IT!! IN SOUTH CAROLINA THEY TAKE AWAY YOUR HEALTH INSURANCE AT 19, WHAT KIND OF B.S. IS THAT!!!! IF WE WANT TO HELP WE SHOULD BUST IN THOSE MEETINGS AND SAY STOP PLAYING US, WE ARE DYING AND PEOPLE ARE IDLE AND WATCHING, I SAY OBAMA IS DOING A GREAT JOB, AND I'M GOING TO STOP THE SHOW AGAIN LIKE I DID LAST YEAR IN MY POETRY ABOUT THE SCHOOL SYSTEMS AND ALSO I'M GOING TO GET ON THE HEALTH CARE REFORM TOO!!!!! WE NEED IT! YES WE CAN, YES WE DID, AND YES WE ARE THE FUTURE!
  • i tink that Kanye is a lil cry baby b*tch.. but taylor handled it good i guess.. now if he would of did that to pink or someone else it would of been a different story
  • i feel you but what kanye did is not relevent and as americans we shouldnt have to be motivated to want whats best for ourselves, our children and there children. grab the mic because of you, because its something that you know is right. This is something we share as americans and unlike kanye who did what he did for himself we do this for each other as brothers and sisters. so ok uncle rush im gonna let you finish ok im gonna let you do that but i just wanna say that john lennon had the best quote EVER!. “A dream you dream alone is only a dream. A dream you dream together is reality.”John Lennon
  • THIS IS EXACTLY MY POINT TO SOME PEOPLE THIS IS THE ONLY WAY KANYE (ON THAT HENNY) HAD THE AUDACITY TI GET UP & SPEAK UP. WE GET SCREWED OVER SO MUCH IT HAPPENS ON A REGULAR BASES, WHEN IT COMES OUT IT COMES OUT REAL BAD!! SO THE MUSIC INDUSTRY IS NO DIFFERENT! THEY STAY STRIPPING US ANYWAY THEY CAN! BLACK PRESIDENT & ALL, THEY RAKING HIM OVER THE GOALS!!!!!!!!! TEA PARTY!!! HERE WE GO:

The House passed a resolution of disapproval on a 240-179! it was the first time in its 220-year history that the House has disciplined a member for speaking out during a presidential speech in the chamber to a joint session of Congress.During debate on the resolution, Wilson called the measure a waste of time and failed to apologize to the chamber, as demanded by House Democrats.

AND OBAMA CALLED KANYE A JACKASS? THINGS THAT MAKE YOU GO UMMMMM!!!!

    COPIED AND PASTED FROM SOMEWHERE!!!

LOVE YOU KANYE!! I WILL NOT FORSAKE YOU AS I WOULD NONE OF MY PEOPLE!!!
  • Great post!

Although, I do believe in what you are saying, I think there should be a screening process for free health care.

I guess the best thing for anyone to do in regard to this issue, or any issue for that matter, is to educate themselves on not only on what they think they believe, but also educate themselves on the opposing views, you may find things that help you develop your own opinion and ideas!

  • Sound like the right the to do.
In other word their shouldn't be anything else to say.
    Nice, speech mike
  • I agree that the health care system does not spend any time or energy helping people make better choices. I also know however, that as a person who is dependent on the system for a prosthesis (i am an amputee) is tough even with health insurance to be able to have the liberty to afford to walk. I am healthy, a vegan and make great choices. I don't get sick. But having a simple above the knee prosthesis has a cost of $20,000 or more. And they don't last more then 5-7 years. So how many of them will I need in my lifetime? Why should I be penalized as a citizen who has worked hard and never even mounted a handicap sticker because health care isn't always available and when it is, between the deductible and the 20% I am still responsible for, I don't always get a piece of equipment that I need to be mobile enough to pay my bills. It's not always about sick people milking the system. Sometimes its about healthy people just looking for an even playing field. As a tax payer, I don't think it's too much to ask.
    • Thanks for providing another perspective, Wren! My mom's also an amputee and has yet to get any consistent therapy through the System, much less a decent prosthesis that fits correctly. If the government can't adequately and affordably serve the Senior population, how in the world will they serve the rest of the nation?

Mom lost her leg below the knee, mainly due to poor diet and lack of exercise, coupled with chain smoking. She was told to change her ways years ago, but not provided the support to do so (vegan wasn't an option in her book) and finally gave up thinking it will all be over soon, anyway (she and my dad, who is in the advanced stages of Alzheimer's at the State Vets Home, are in their 80's.)

Truth is, we have a history of longevity on both sides of the family, so there's no counting on a quick exit for either of them. My parents are now too proud to accept help from the kids, whereas once upon a time they were too proud to accept government handouts. If my dad knew where he'd been placed (supposedly temporarily, while my mom underwent surgery,) he would be mortified to be living on the dole.

What's the bottom line? It's all about a perceived lack of resources to obtain what is necessary for a quality life. For those living by faith (understanding, not blind): Man's extremity is God's opportunity. "With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible." Have you met Rev. Ike?

    • Speaking of alternative means of procuring prosthetics: Just came across a BlogTV fundraiser called "Give the Kid a Hand" on http://howmayIserve.org if anyone would like to chip in.

  • There's a difference between Health care and Medical care, and some of us don't believe the latter is synonymous with Health. I take care of myself, and don't expect anyone to take responsiblity for footing the bill for others' "lifestyle choices" ~ and that includes my own mother (chain smoker) & father (part of the "Greatest Generation) who were raised on downhome Southern fried cookin', owned their own family business for nearly 50 years and never had any medical insurance or major medical crises until they qualified for Medicare when they reached retirement age.

That's when the medical establishment began taking full advantage of them on the taxpayers' dime (same thing happened to my husband's grandparents.) Some would fault old age, but as a practicing (low-fat raw) vegan just as uncleRUSH and longtime member of the running community, I've seen what a difference real healthy living can do for the young & young at heart!

People need to take responsibility for their own health, first and foremost! I have no desire to support the "broken" medical system anymore than the "broken" government educational system. If it's "broken," why not try something entirely different for a change?!

Let's talk alternative living, including healthcare and education -- take a close look at the remarkable results they're getting and let the government do what it was created to do (healthcare, energy, automobiles, and education obviously ain't it -- look at the results, if you're not already convinced!)

For those who are living by faith (understanding, not blind) Rev. Ike said, "I don't need health insurance, I have Blessed Assurance!" Peace, Love, and Prosperity <3

  • Yeap! People need to wake up. Damn it seems the human race is ok with them reconditioning us. ROBOTS ARE THE FUTURE!!God is good. People needs to get more credit though we not all dumb!!
  • I been said the same thing when I woke up the next morning after the VMA's and saw the kayne west tantrum on CNN like it was front page news like we don't have a health care plan that we are trying to get passed...I saw how facebook blew up after the kanye thing...but i have never seen or heard any of my fb friends talk about the health care reform with the same passion they spoke about what went down at the VMA's everything about todays popular culture is very disturbing...yes young people and minorities made a big turn out to vote this past election but it really wasn't as big it was expected to be and they shouldnt stop paying attention just because the elections is over keep the hype up...we as a people especially young people need to speak upon what is truly important...because if we don't speak up now we will surly pay for it later...It just baffles me how people are really fighting universal health care just shows how selfish we are as a country...lets keep paying insurance companies to not insure us when we get sick lets pass up offers that ban that from happening...this all frustrates me that young people will watch mtv but not follow cnn or any other news platform and be informed on their futures...get it together folks we are working our way to a speedy demise
  • me and my peoples have been talking about health care reform for over 10 years - it's funny to me, how now it's becoming important to everyone else - WHY - is it because obama's in office now.....people pleeeeease, if you're going to stand up for a purpose, do it because it's needed not because the timing is "right"
