Do Twitter Followers Measure an Artist's Success?

Posted September 8, 2010 by User Contribution for Global Grind Staff

If an artist is only as good as his/her twitter following, then Soulja Boy, Justin Bieber and Kim Kardashian are among the most talented individuals of our time. I am fascinated with the general public's desire to know what celebrities are doing on a daily basis.

There is now a website that enables us to do just that. Twitter allows 'fans' to get direct access to celebrities and can also be used as an effective marketing tool. As a twitter user, I can't help but notice the constant retweets and suggestions on who I should follow.

When I click on these pages I notice that some these celebrities have millions of followers when artists that I deem more talented do not have half as many people interested in their daily activities. For example, the twitter followers of talented singers Algebra BlessettCorey Latif Williams, and Tank combined do not add up to the amount of followers that any of the aforementioned celebrities have.
