Gabby Douglas might be the most prominent athlete of the year after winning gold for the gymnastics All-Around at the 2012 Olympics, but her road to success almost ended before she reached the end.
In her new memoir "Grace, Gold, And Glory", Gabby shares the conversation she had with her mom before her win at the Olympics revealing that she wanted to quit gymnastics and work at a Chick-Fil-A!
She texted her mom:
“Gymnastics is not my passion anymore.“I can get a job at Chick-Fil-A in Virginia Beach and live off the 14-grand I just won at World Championships."
“I just want to be a normal teenage kid."
Gabby also told her mom that she would run track, or be a dancer, or a singer. She was willing to do almost anything except be a gymnast.
Her mom told Gabby that this news broke her heart, even though it didn't seem to change her mind.
According to the book, it was her older brother John who convinced her to stay with the sport.
It's a good thing Gabby didn't give up on her journey so we could all see her shine!
