Isaiah Washington is best known for his role in Grey’s Anatomy, but after going back to Africa and rediscovering his roots, the actor is now an accomplished author. Isaiah’s book, A Man From Another Landdocuments his travel and his experience going back to Africa.

While talking about his amazing book, Washington began speaking about good hair and bad hair and the conversation turned to the comments people made concerning Olympic champion Gabby Douglas’ mane.

He commented:

“There’s still good hair/bad hair issues, 15 years later, when I purposely came outta here to keep my hair in locks for Living Single and Love Jones to eradicate this hair issue and make it beautiful. Then have some kid under 25 look at my hair and go, ‘Isaiah Washington looks fine, but his hair’s a mess!’ It blows my mind! How is this cancer still infecting the minds of our people into making us hate ourselves?”

GGYou look at Gabby Douglas and…

Oh man! I don’t even wanna talk about her right now! I don’t wanna talk about that nonsense. I get chill bumps! It just lets me know that their plan is still playing up with their marketing strategy. It’s still working and we have the tools … We have the blogging and the social media. We have the tools to just stop! Stop saying “them.” Stop saying “they.” Start promoting by any means necessary.

The woman has to pin her hair down because she’s sweating. If her hair comes out, she gets a deduction. If her hair flies in her face, she could hurt herself and die. This is how serious it is. It has nothing to do with her hair. It has nothing to do with keeping it beautiful while she’s sweating. Can you do it? I can’t do it! Sometimes I get a little paranoid that I don’t think that an African American tweeted that! I think the CIA tweeted it. They know that Negros are going to jump on it, and not shut it down if it stops. Stop! She’s the first African-American woman to win a gold. That is ALL we should be talking about, period. Instead, we’re acting like it never happened.”

Washington reveals a lot of his own personal discovery in his new book, A Man From Another Land. Be sure to stay tuned to GlobalGrind for more of our informative interview.
