Kanye West and G.O.O.D. Music took over Brooklyn last night as Heineken's Red Star Access Tour kicked off in a big way. Hundreds of New York's elite recieved the Nokia cell phone invitation and once they got the text message they flocked to Skylight Hanson in BK to see Yeezy do his thing.
Before Kanye took the stage, guests munched on pretzels and hot dogs while sipping Heinekens and watching the game. The pro Dallas crowd cheered as the Mavs pulled off the victory, while Q-Tip the Abstract spun the tunes of the night. Finally, two minutes after the NBA Finals was over, it seems like Yeezy was ready to hit the stage.
His boy Aziz Ansari stepped up to the mic and joked about the people who were mad the concert started late, saying when have you ever heard of a rap concert starting on time? Then as the crowd erupted in laughter, Aziz pulled out his Nokia phone and in true Ansari fashion, introduced Kanye like only he can. Then one blow job joke later, Yeezy took the stage amidst smoke and lights.
He broke into his hits from "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy" and was later joined by Pusha T, Kid Cudi, Mr. Hudson, Big Sean, Cyhi Da Prynce and the G.O.O.D. Music takeover began.
Yeezy would slide on and off stage to give his artist some shine and come back to perform their collab songs. Then when it was time for Yeezy to take the stage again he would show 'em how it's done. The smoke filled the room and Mr. West began to levitate about the crowd.
Once he got back down ,he thanked the crowd and briefly mentioned how he just finished his sixth album and he thanked Jay-Z for making half of it. Kanye didn't play any cuts and broke many hearts when he said Jay-Z wasn't in the building, but overall the show was one of the best hip-hop shows we've ever seen here at GlobalGrind.
But it does raise the question, if you can put on the best show and still leave people disappointed, can you raise to bar too high for yourself when it comes to "Watch the Throne"?
