The "Bye Baby" rapper and his "Milkshake" ex-wife are trying to be friends for the sake of their child Night.

Queens native Nas opened up to TMZ about their current relationship status. 

Nas tells TMZ, the two are trying to put the past behind them in order to develop a healthy relationship for the benefit of their 3-year-old son Knight -- but they are NOT reuniting romantically.

The rapper says they've been on good terms for a while now and he hopes it will continue. Nas and Kelis even grabbed dinner last night in L.A. together.

The couple went through a nasty divorce back in 2009, while Kelis was 7 month pregnant. Things got so bad between the two that Nas actually found out she was having their baby from TMZ ... now that's bad! 

But time heals all wounds and it's good to see the couple trying to work on their friendship.
