I'll Never Stop Saying N*gger The Word Is Too Important By BlogXilla

Posted June 8, 2012 by BlogXilla for Global Grind Staff

I wonder if Jay-Z and Kanye West knew their song N****s In Paris would cause such a debate over the word nigger. If you must know I intentionally did not censor the word, because I feel like we cannot kill the word nigger.

I say it, whether it's with an 'er' or an 'a' at the end, and I will continue to use the word. I urge people of all colors not to be scared of the word.

It doesn't bother me if it's not used in a malicious way, and for all the folks who say we need to ban from the English language, I say chill out.

EXCLUSIVE: The N*gger Blog by Russell Simmons

We cannot abolish the word because getting rid of it, would essentially erase the history of African Americans. I don't know about y'all, but I refused to have my family history deleted twice.

Most black Americans cannot trace their heritage back to the motherland, but only a plantation. A plantation where we were enslaved, called niggers, whipped, raped, forced to eat scraps and oppressed. This is our history, our ancestors made it through one of the most brutal forms of slavery ever known to mankind, and censoring the word nigger would diminish the strength of our people. We overcame! We won.

There are some things you just don't forget and the slave trade/oppression of the black race in America is one of them. You don't hear Jewish people, saying forget the holocaust, Americans will never forget 9-11, or Pearl Harbor, and we are willing to hold on to the Katrina disaster forever, but nigger and all the bad memories that comes with it, some of us want to sweep that under the rug forever.

I refuse to let that happen. I say nigger to let people know we took that word back from them and it now belongs to our people. I say nigger because I can, and I say it as a way to dare someone else to say it, in it's original meaning.

There is no denying the horrible history of the word, but just like a wasteland can be turned into major sports complex, or a woman of the night can change her life and become a wife, a word can change its meaning.

While that word will never truly be clean of its past, it is the most important word in the English language. It's a word that I refuse to let ruin me, or define me.

The word must live on because too many black people died to prove it's meaning wrong. The word must live on because we fought so hard to take it back. The word must live on so we will never slip back into the terrible conditions of our past.

When they called us niggers there was a stronger sense of family, business, unity, and religion in our community. Bottom line is we never were the second class citizens they thought we were. I know what and who I am, what anyone else thinks otherwise means nothing. Names will never hurt me.

You gotta give to Hov and Yeezy for naming their son N*ggas In Paris, they proved that a boy can come up from the projects to the top of the world, no matter what they called us in the past. Despite the complexities of circumstances, we proved that the word nigger cannot and will not hold us down, so lets keep it around as a reminder that we are a lot stronger than you thought we were.
