It might sound cliche, but Tika Sumpter is so much more than a pretty face. Not only can she throw down in the kitchen, but she can get down to Marvin Gaye and Sam Cooke.

That's our kinda girl.

Besides making her own specialty mini burgers, we chopped it up with Tika to discuss her shopping habits, guilty pleasures and everything in between.

What are the last 5 things you purchased?

I just purchased some new YSL shoes. I just purchased a new curling iron - a big one! I just purchased some MAC makeup, Mario Badescu cleansing products. I’m trying those out, it’s working out well and I just purchased winter clothes, I needed some, so I went a little crazy online.

What are your favorite things to cook?

I just started cooking my own hamburgers and that’s the best thing ever! Literally, I have these mini burgers because I like tiny burgers, and I started making these mini burgers with buffalo cheese on top and then bacon on a toasted whole grain English muffin. And I put mayo on it and then I cut up these little medallion fries and then eat them. And you season the beef with Laury’s seasoning salt and all your favorite flavors.

I made it the other day and I almost died it was so good! I was like, 'Why should I ever go to McDonalds?' Why, when I can make this deliciousness in my house? That’s one of my favorite things to make and then I like to make lamb chops. I like grilling. I just like making food at home!

What are your favorite songs right now?

Honestly, I’m listening to a lot of Motown. I’m obsessed with Smokey Robinson, when he was a kid on Motown. Everything Marvin Gaye, everything Sam Cook. I just love their voices. I literally put on Pandora and that’s all I listen to and if I need something a little faster I love that song "Without You" by David Guetta and Usher. If I need to just jump around, I love that song it's such a beautiful song. But mostly Motown!

What’s your guilty pleasure?

Nothing I do I really feel guilty about. I guess a TV show?

Yeah, do you like Mob Wives?

I haven’t really watched it. I guess Housewives of Atlanta. Nene is really funny so I watch for that reason. I think she’s hilarious and I met her before at the Essence Music Festival and she was really sweet and she was funny. Really tall and really sweet, well, at least to me.

What’s your drink of choice?

I can always go for a nice Riesling, white wine. I’m really into white wine. I can never find a mixed drink that I really love unless it’s like a nice cold frozen margarita that’s made really well, but I like Rieslings and white wines.

Being from New York what’s your favorite secret cool spot?

Oh there is this dope Jamaican food spot downtown. It feels like you’re in Jamaica. It feels very… not dark… it's very speak easy and slow and the DJ plays all reggae and you’re eating and drinking and the food is really good and the back has records of Jamaican singers all over it.

It’s plastered with records and it’s just a dope spot. It’s so dope and the foods good and they have sorrel and it’s all good!
